OMG with only 16 seats left for St.nick. Last year we brought a house right opp St.nick, if i throw a stone hard enough it can hit the school field. So stress … Already move there … Die die must try right.
We are catholic and within 1 km still have to ballot. On next Monday,I refused to be the one to pick the lots, I shall insist my hubby do that. At least don’t get blame if not selected. -

neither you nor yr husband is the one drawing names.
The Primary 1 school Registration Officer on duty at St Nick is the one drawing lots.
on Wednesday, 25 July (balloting day for Phase 2B applicants nation wide):-
i) each slip of white paper bearing the child's full name & Registration # will be flashed onto an overhead white projector, visibly clearly seen by all parents sitting down inside the room. Some couple even hold / squeeze hands together tightly, sitting down side by side, very nervous. The duty officer read out each child's name. If anything is wrong during reading out names, parents can stop immediately on the spot, verify which particular info is wrong.
ii)
- if nothing wrong after verification, officer will then drop each slip of white paper into a transparent big box (for everyone to see).
the transparent box will be shaken up & down, left & right many times, swirled around several times, ensure evenly distribution.
- after all the names of pupils had been read out, school will invite a guest of honour come up to the front, perform lucky draw dip.
iii)
as each name is being called out, that same slip of precious white paper will be hung out immediately onto a white board, one by one, side by side. This white board contain all names - that had been successfully balloted.
process repeat ... until the very last name is been called out.
as each name is being called out, you can hear squeals of delightful joy in the background from that particular parent whose child's name has just been called. She'll quickly send sms (in silent mode) to notify all her loved ones that her child got balloted in !
iv) after entire balloting process over,
parents can move forward to white board, take photo of that very precious white slip paper hung up there. Go home, explain to your child how his parents fought hard for him / her to get into the school. Paste that precious photo inside your child's photo album:- the beginning track of his Primay 1 education life journey process. -

And some will also post their \"victory\" here and share the joys with fellow members........

I am also Catholic and wanted to buy a house opposite St Nicks too but the number of places available make me really scared that the moving will not be worth it. Then I will bang my head on the wall right? Worse thing is, they will give PVs the priority on the waiting list (if not successful at the ballots), not us Catholics.
Where did you find your courage?? I am so scared that I am looking to buy homes near other IJs or govt girls schools... (my gal's turn in 2015/6) -

Don't understand what you mean by \"they will give PVs the priority on the waiting list (if not successful at the ballots) , not us Catholics\" ..... I thought Catholics and PVs are on the same standing, the only difference is whether stay within 1km to school do not.
Oh dear ..... :?:
Really cannot get in, I will pick up courage and try 2C.... If still cannot ....sigh....I have tried my best Liao :stupid: -

What cherrygal meant was that, should you be unsuccessful in the ballot, you may request to be placed in the waiting list of the school. However, PVs usually are usually placed high up in the wait list than say GRL or clan/church members because the former have contributed directly to the schools via their min. 40 hours.Don't understand what you mean by \"they will give PVs the priority on the waiting list (if not successful at the ballots) , not us Catholics\" ..... Yes, that's true.
all are Phase 2B applicants.
however for PV, the Principal of St Nick know you personally. She had seen you, ever talked to you before when she see you clocking up hours tediously one by one minimal 40 hrs, contributing your time & effort directly to the school, impacting the school.
for GRL, Clan / Catholic or Methodist Church members, the Principal may not know you.
sometimes \"WHO You Know In Life That Counts\" Matters a lot, esp. when very few precious seats are left available for transfer, for those balloted out. The Principal, after all, is human. -
Thanks qms and phtthp for explaining further.

You better have Plan B ready. For my older boy, I decided to take Plan B without trying for Plan A (Cat High) coz Catholic High was only left with 9 seats that year. Did not dare to take the huge risk and end up nowhere.
At least for girls, there's still Marymount Convent. -
