Take a good look at the fish that you think is pregnant. Actually, Koi fish don't get 'pregnant', and aren't 'live-bearers'. But, they do look fatter when they have eggs developing- usually in the spring or summer. Does the fish look fatter than the other fish in the pond? Does it look fatter, or does it look bloated?

Look at the behaviour of your other Koi fish. When female Koi have developed eggs, they have to be pushed out of her body. Usually this means that the males will chase her around and essentially bash her against the sides of the pond. When she expells her eggs, the males can then fertilize them. They can get quite aggressive about this, and it can go on for hours- even days. it's possible your female can get hurt. It isn't uncommon to have Koi fish actually leap out of the pond during this activity. So, observe your fish. Are a lot of the fish chasing one fish? Are they pushing the fish against the sides of the pond? Is your fish swimming slower than normal?

A koi cannot become pregnant. They lay eggs. A female koi is verv fat, especially when full of eggs. This is usually in the summer. They also tend to have shorter noses. The males develop white spots called gill tubericules when they sense it is time to mate. However, one can know that the female is full of eggs by ligtly rubbing her sides towards her anus. DO NOT SQEEZE THE FISH!! Eggs will come out. Really the best sign is that the males are chasing her all over the place and smashing her into the sides of the pond. BE VERY CAREFUL! Many people have lost fish who leap from the pond in the dead of night. Check the pond regularly. Check it in the middle of the night! If you want to have any baby fish left, be sure to put in some grass mats or hiding places. Koi eat eggs and their own young. Go to the website koivet.com

Peapot, if your fish is not dead yet due to all this excitement, some of us would have choked to death with laughter. The main culprits will be you and Chief. I don't usually look at the names of the posters but :slapshead: :slapshead: having names changed to Peepot, Peapod and then vlim, limlim etc. Luckily Chief didn't refer one of them as limpik. :rotflmao: :rotflmao: This forum has not had so much fun lately. šŸ˜† šŸ˜†
