NUS High School of Mathematics and Science (Diploma)

Not sure if random. just thinking either by application no/ strong interest / marks in selection test subjects. Don't think Alphabet order.
might be they have another group NMOS Top 30 for Maths/Science (not sure). Anybody DS/DD Einstein members or have MO certs (Gold / Platinum) then might know that category?
I think it's random. DS1 in Blue last year, SMOPS Platinium, now same class as Lim Li. Strong in Math & Science, but not Einstein member, not NMOS or SPSO Top 30. Btw, NMOS Special Round results is out.
PM you.
wow, must be proud to have 2 DS strong in Maths & Science. I am releaved cause was worried if based on results
NMOS 2011 last year results.
一山还有一山高,in NUSHS, DS1 told me that there are so many other 高手,so he said he better work harder .... -

Hey, that's really nice
My DS is also in blue. He is strong in Maths . When he attended the selection test, he said Maths was very easy, science was very tough and he couldn't manage even one question. We are surprised that he can go into the camp.sandunes:
Mine is in Blue too.
I am sure they will have fun tomorrow.
I am happy for your DS. He must be very good in Maths. My DS found the maths paper difficult, he had to forgo one question. Science was easy for him, he had 30 minutes left, spent his time looking at the list of atoms instead of checking. I was like \"what??!!\" Just like a boy, I think...
Anyway, being in NUS High will be exciting for the children, I think, and a lot of useful cross-learning, from people who are good in their areas of weaknesses

Agree , sometimes competitive environment changes the kids a lot . -
Thanks Dagong. This is assuring. My DS has none of that. We didn’t target any of these for him. I am hoping that it will be exactly as what you said - those with the talent will be able to get in, regardless of their awards or GEP or school results. As I said, my DS’ school results were not fantastic. That will make NUS High very different from all the other schools in Singapore.
Dun worry, in fact, if i’m not mistaken, NUSHS is the only one among the popular schools like HCI, RI, that does not give special preference to GEP. -

Ya, I always jokingly ask DS1 if his classmates have an extra ‘brain’ or have ‘三头六臂’ when he told me they are so ‘pro’ in this & that but I think as long as the kids have the interest & motivation and given the opportunity to stretch them, they should all turn out fine … -
Hi Dagong99
U say yr DS is in same class as Lim Li who is Lim Jeck’s sister. Can u tell us how the class perform in all subjects? Is that class the best? Very good in Math and Sci?
Thanks. -

All students in class have no problem w Math (not Math Olympiad, MO is an Elective), but not all are good in Science, at least for now, especially when now Science comprises of bio, chem & physics, each as a subject itself and is so much deeper in depth. Probably also because it's the first time the kids study Science in depth unlike in their primary school days.Hi Dagong99

I would not say his is the best class, but rather the distribution of students of various background, standards are quite even throughout the 6 classes. DS1 has classmates from neighborhood schools as well as from elite ones, classmates from India, others from Korea too. There are those who are very pro in Math & others in other subjects. Different kids have different strengths. It's an eye-opener & a good mix for DS1 to learn how to interact w people from all walks of life.
It is always good to read in advance, something that DS1 realized after 6 mths in school, especially for bio, chem & physics. DS1 told me he may not
be as good as others for Math but he is working hard on the Science subjects. So, I think as long as the kids have the interest & are motivated, they should be able to do well. All the best to those going for the camp, good luck & enjoy !
