Again I feel that if an air of cordiality and civililty is maintained in this forum, it'll be helpful. Everyone is entitled to his opinion. -
I don't think you can withdraw and squander your CPF medisave or medisheld right? CPF got so many components... One has to be specific.
And CIVIL of cos'.... A lost art in current society....

Apologies if I missed the CPF medisave part coz I thought it's just CPF in general. Also a remember a post about using CPF for housing, that's why the confusion, thought \"Ordinary Account\" is also in the discussion.
CPF medisave ,then I believe not so easy to \"squander\" away.
ps: was searching for the post on housing, then realised it's embedded in my own earlier quote. PAiseh  -

Not so easy to spend away due to the restrictions still in place now.Apologies if I missed the CPF medisave part coz I thought it's just CPF in general. Also someone mentioned about using CPF for housing, that's why the confusion.

Probably good to have restrictions cos 'money that cannot be seen are usually easily spent'. But I believe a detailed thot proces is required so that its sustainable for everyone in the long term.....not 'my money up to me to spend'.
Perhaps good to know what is being approved currently, how much per year etc. And what u support to be included further..... -

On medical care?limlim:
But, if you're not sick, why would you squander your CPF money away?[/
sorry, I have to disagree with this statement . I've seen a relative's father squandering away all the CPF money when he was hale and hearty. When the money was gone, and he was plagued with health problems, he became a \"liability\" to his loved ones. It's true that when one suddenly has a humongous sum of money in front of him, not everyone will know how to use it wisely . In that sense, I think the govt is not wrong in trying to \"protect\" this sum of money.
The help for the needy can come in other forms, and more should be done for them
Do note that we're discussing wrt using CPF for essential medical treatment only, if you're following the debate.. I do not suggest \"free for all CPF withdrawal\".
ps: I saw your later post
I can't delete so leave it as it is. -

Home Ownership Plus Education (HOPE) Scheme
The HOPE scheme is for families with gross household income of $1,500 per month or less. How many kids do you reckon that a family with household income of $1,500 should have?
isn't it even worse? Birth rate is dropping and they are only giving incentives to the highest income bracket to have more children. Not much incentives if you belong to the middle-low income group. And with this HOPE, they are blatantly discouraging more children from the low income group. I try not to call this discriminative social engineering but many will say that it is.
You can see that so little is done to promote local total fertility rate and they are pinning hope on quick solution like immigration. Giving expensive scholarships to foreigners...So what is this immigation about? Wouldn't they add to severity of greying population 20-30 years down the road instead of solving it even partially?
You have no idea why I am showing you this?!
You have levied criticisms on the HOPE scheme. Are you even aware what the HOPE scheme is all about?
So what's your position? It's ok for households with less than SGD1,500 per month to have 3 kids or more? It's ok that they cannot afford to feed, clothe or educate the child? As long as they are contributing to the population numbers, the state gotta bear responsibilities for all that? -
Actually, was wondering who does the Govt need to allow PRs to buy HDB flats?
PRs can always rent HDB or buy condo right? If they are attracting "Talents", not cheapo PMET labour to complete with citizens for jobs.
Or HDB can rent flats to PRs.
Why must allow PR to buy HDB flats? -

Although I am a pr myself, I also think it's not wise to allow prs to buy public housing and cause the market to go haywire. I think garment's idea is to make these prs to be more invested in sg and hopefully will settle down and convert, either that or hdb just want $$$.Actually, was wondering who does the Govt need to allow PRs to buy HDB flats?
