Hi Melodyrain2,
There is a mix of teacher la. Fierce is not all bad. Overall, DLS is good. There are lots of non-academic activities too. Recently, my DD has the interest of Ukulele as i hear from her that school has hundred of them and they learn during P4 Music.

Well,I find the learning and culture environment is good where the teachers are helpful and they emphasize on values like gratefulness , respect etc. If your child is a catholic he/she will attend catechism , If not he/she will attend character value lessons .melodyrain2:
Hi Favplusle,
Please tell me about the culture and learning environment at DLS? What CCAs DLS is strong at or what are the interesting ones? I read from the thread that teachers can be fierce, is it happening?
I just registered my DS under Phase 2A2 for P1 next year, so I have very interested to find out anything about the school. DS is looking forward to studying at DLS too.
For the CCA part, im not so sure... I only joined CCAs which has all girls in it.
If your child loves sports,Basketball and Taekwondo can be quite interesting.
If your child loves outdoor stuff, Scouts will be good
If your child likes IT, Robotics club will be fun
During my 6 years in DLS, I have encountered fierce teachers, but they wont be fierce (or terrible) to the extent where they pull students hair etc.
As more new teachers come to teach with others leaving the school, it may be a different case for your child.
i just got my kid registered under Phase 2A2 as well. Was an old boy years back when DLS was in Telok Blangah. Personally, I do not mind having strict teachers. To me, discipline is very important. What matter most to me is the affliation linked to the secondary and college. The education system in SG has got so competitive nowadays so much so that 1/2 point can make a difference on which secondary school your kid can go to. -
Any kids in class 1I for chinese?

Hi All, I just got my son registered under Phase 2B, and no ballot. Saw a lot of Philipinos and India catholics on the first day of Phase 2B. Glad it will be a bit cosmopolitan. Anybody can share anything on the canteen food, the primary 1 teachers (mostly ethnic origins), can park my car in the school , whre to buy the colourful school t shirts an shorts, etc…very excited…its as if I myself is going to study there…

Oh, one parent told me that since it is a semi public school, I have to give donations every month, and that MOE will send the worst teachers to DLS. Is this just conversation pieces, or there is some small truths in it? (Not that this is a worry, but …?)

This is not true!!! i have two kids in DLS. At time, they are given donation card to bring home to fund the construction. It's individual choice whether want to support. Quite a number of time we return empty. -

I got my DD registered under Phase 2B too.
As for donations, its not compulsory but personally IMHO I think its ok to donate because we are helping to contribute to a school where our kids will be nutured for 6 years. As for worst teachers.... :scratchhead: I wonder where did that come from... cos other schools also I heard got \"worst teachers\"...... -
My DS got in during 2B phase
very excited too! Being a teacher, I know that MOE usually posts new teachers to any school near the teacher's home. They also take into consideration the school's needs such as lack of teachers for particular subjects. Teachers can opt to be posted out to another sch after 2yrs. How to tell if they are the best or worst, rite? -
Hi
My boy in P1 this year. There was only 1 donation drive where the kids were asked to sell coupons to fund the construction of the new buildings.
I like my boy’s teachers as they are responsive, contactable via sms and will take the initiative to update me on my boy’s progress regularly via sms.
The only thing is that I’m not sure how to keep track of their learning progress especially English as the books are all kept at school.
