How can one hope to talk about learning Chinese without using Chinese? The only reason why this thread is still not yet alive is because of my half-past 6 Chinese, and we are patiently awaiting the arrival of our very own CL-educator-parent for our community We will be honored to have you to take this position and mother this thread, nan.nan

Advantage for you is that you can use Chinese to insult me right here in this Forum and I will be none the wiser. I'm probably worse than 3Boys when it comes to CL proficiency, by several more orders.

Cafelatte - sorry I was away for last few days. Thank you for your kind compliment. I guess there must be many more others who are good at Chinese. I am new to this forum but I can see that many many parents are very active in helping their children's school work by asking many questions and discussing solutions. However I noticed that, comparatively, the number of postings in the Chinese subject forums are much lesser than the others. So I think helping our children in the Chinese subject should be no different from other subjects - we must first take an interest in it ourselves. To start doing that, I guess we must first try to use that language more, set a good example ourselves. I wasn't sure if the community here welcome the idea of writing the entire post in Chinese. I gave it a try. Since no one raise any objection, perhaps we can continue. Or should we ask the Chief about this ?

Thanks for your response! I totally agree with you, especially on the number of postings in the Chinese subject forums. I think we all struggled with the challenge but not many has found solutions. I am interested in the language, actually I love the language :oops: but I am only okay in it. During my time, I did okay in school but I really don't remember struggling so much. Perhaps it is really more difficult for our children now.

同时， 如果任何家长有提升孩子华文口试和作文能力的建议，请大家提出来讨论。
小儿明年小四， 通常在理解问答与作文题被扣很多分数。目前成绩一般，我担心继续下来几年会更加吃力。
现在是学校假期，我在想有什么可以在学华文上可下的功夫可做?

我同意你的看法。
在上一个句子里，奥巴马总统“被”小孩的问题杀个措手不及，这肯定是尴尬的，不好的。
在下一个句子里，奥巴马“被”热爱他支持他的选民选为总统，成为美国历史上第一位非洲裔总统，这是好事，不含贬义。

我不是想钻牛角尖（split hairs），不过下一个句子或许可以写成：

童言无忌，但男童确实道破Obama得到许多热爱他的选民的支持，入主白宫，却在上任后变得越来越“惹人厌”，声望不断下跌的事实。

我的解释是：奥巴马“被”送入白宫，好象他不很愿意的事，他是被动的。在古时，王妃如果失宠，就会被送入冷宫，永不翻身。因此，他不应该“被”送入白宫，而是在得到美国人民的支持，赢得选举，成为白宫的主人。

I guess it is just a matter of confidence. From what you wrote (in Chinese) in your posting, there is nothing wrong at all. I think if you carry on writing in Chinese, you will be more confident and like it more.

只要大家提出多一点话题，这里就会更多人来看，来参与，这就是小小的进步了。
