IMHO, there are currently too much priority given to children of alumni where P1 registration is concern. The current system gives priority to all children of alumni regardless of how near or far they stay from the school. If the situation is left unchecked, children of non alumni will find it hard to enter the school even if their home is very very near the school.

In addition, this priority are also given to children of alumni regardless of whether they contribute to the school or not after they graduate. There are some discussion on whether the non active alumni or an active contributing Parent Volunteer deserves a place more in the same school.

Having the above in mind, let's hope MOE will soon review the system to correct the above.

      😄

Thanks! That is also what I think. I hope it is real soon. If government can implement a new and stringent regulations on housing residential overnight, I do not see why they could not do the same for this matter?

Well it is very easy to give someone something they don't have. But if you flip the coin, it may not be half as easy to take something back if it had all these while been granted .........

              Penza:

BTW I wrote ths to ST but it never got posted:

In her letter, Mrs Agawal have hit the gist of why PR students should not be given equal chance for Primary 1 registration. She says that if her children were unable to secure a place in a good public school, why would her family to stay? A Singpore citizen will never be able to say that. We are here to stay and as such deserve the right to choose before a permanent resident.

Think about it, if her husband or herself cant get a job here ,do you think she can or will stay? For these ppl, jobs & money are the main priorities before education. I dont believe that they will go for a lower paying job or less prospective jobs so that their children can have better education in a foreign country. They will go to where there are greener grass & if it packages with good education, why not. And at the same time get to enjoy same priviledge as citizens like us.

For one thing, maybe you singaporeans will be happy to know that this citizen has got a place through balloting but my neighbour(PR) did not :celebrate:.

I am not sure what you are trying to say. You only seem to be ignorant about reality.

//if her husband or herself cant get a job here ,do you think she can or will stay?//
why would you expect a foreigner to stay when they don't have a job. Everyone have their priority to look after

//For these ppl, jobs & money are the main priorities before education.//
Now, this is the best of all. You have concluded that foreigners place everything ahead of education? What made you think so? Do you think being a local gives you the right to be judgmental?

//I dont believe that they will go for a lower paying job or less prospective jobs so that their children can have better education in a foreign country//
What is the link between low paying job and better education in foreign country :slapshead:

//They will go to where there are greener grass & if it packages with good education, why not//
Don't you think this is the very mentality of every human being? If you happen to get a good offer will you happily reject it?

Lastly, you may feel happy in getting priority over PRs, but you can never stop any talents. A child's progress doesn't depend only on schools but also on other factors such as parents contribution as well.

Only Singapore citizens (SC) get to vote in General Election. PRs do not.
Our SG government politicians are concerned about the precious opinion of fellow SC.
For it is the voices of SC (have the power) - who determine the percentage of votes for ruling & opposition party.
                Never PR.

just another damn smoke bomb thrown to confuse singaporeans since they cant convince us…

under one particular phase, sinkies first of cos but after that, PRs are given the change instead of another sinkie who fall under the next phase…

change soup no change bone… PAP sucks!

yes, black belt. i agreed with you. I know someone who has joined alumni recently so that his child can get into the school. No active contribution from this person whatsoever and this person’s child can easily get a seat. How about those pv/grl who has contributed so many hours and still no gurantee for a seat. Of course, for active alumni, they deserved for their child to get in to that school.

Haha...are you talking about me? My DH joined the alumni 18 mth ago so that our DS can get into his old school. We were hesistating whether to register or not and only made up our mind in P2A2. I admit we have contributed nothing to the school. Are we happy? The answer is an obvious NO because of home-school distance. The problem is we can't get into the school which is just within 3 min walk from home! This is really a damn stupid cycle. Other people staying 7-8km travelling to this school opposite my place and my DS needs to travel 7-8km to his school. :stupid:

Yeah v stupid. Then just thinking… Should MOE implement distance priority limit for P2A too? Anyone more than X km has to go ballot etc?
