MOE Relooking P1 registration - Too much priority to alumni
-
yes, black belt. i agreed with you. I know someone who has joined alumni recently so that his child can get into the school. No active contribution from this person whatsoever and this person’s child can easily get a seat. How about those pv/grl who has contributed so many hours and still no gurantee for a seat. Of course, for active alumni, they deserved for their child to get in to that school.

Haha...are you talking about me? My DH joined the alumni 18 mth ago so that our DS can get into his old school. We were hesistating whether to register or not and only made up our mind in P2A2. I admit we have contributed nothing to the school. Are we happy? The answer is an obvious NO because of home-school distance. The problem is we can't get into the school which is just within 3 min walk from home! This is really a damn stupid cycle. Other people staying 7-8km travelling to this school opposite my place and my DS needs to travel 7-8km to his school. :stupid: -
Yeah v stupid. Then just thinking… Should MOE implement distance priority limit for P2A too? Anyone more than X km has to go ballot etc?
-
Oh, you are another one…this person whom I know has a not bad school 5 mins away from the hse but choose the school that is further away…with this kind of situation, those who stayed near the school that could not get in and has to travel far apart to go to another school…does that make sense? sign, how to contribute to the nation population whereby getting into a school already so headache plus the cost of living.

I read a few pages of the earlier discussion and i think this point was raised too. IMHO, yes, I think there should also be a distance priority in P2A.
In fact, someone suggested to group the alumni, pv, clan, church as a common pool so we just have phase 1 (siblings), phase 2 (all with connections), phase 3 (no connection). After phase 1, 50%-50% split between phase 2 & 3. Remaining places will be opened for PRs / foreigners. -

:goodpost:
Yes, this is certainly the fairest and simplest system to implement! -

:goodpost: Yes, this sounds fair.

Actually I hate the process of alumni but when come to think about it you will value it. We can pass down to our future generation. Our children will not have to go through so much problem the next time when they want to register school for their children.
Yes, at this moment I am very upset with P2A system because it really left a few peanuts for P2B and P2C. Especially for us living within 1km to SCGS and ACSP. -
Alumni priority is ok… But only when paired with distance.
i.e. alumni within 1km or 2km can enjoy the priority… the rest… join the P2C. -
