Oh My Gosh:
Just wondering if anyone can help clarify a question I have:

I'm PR (Sorry), have applied for a school for my daughter where we're over 2KM but in the past there were always places at phase 2c, however this year it's looking very likely it will go to ballot and I'm now thinking I'd like to withdraw my app and try another local school we also like, is it possible before registration has closed or do we have to wait till 2CS now?

      Thanks.

P1 registration is like placing bets on the casino tables. As long as the dealer had not pressed the 'final' bell (i.e. 1 August 4:30pm for Phase 2C registration), all gamblers (parents) can still change their bets (i.e. another school) on the table. After the final bell is pressed, no change is entertained. Some gamblers win (either direct entry or through balloting) and some gamblers lose. Gamblers whom win can leave the game or take another bet (this happens to few parents whom gave up their Phase 1 or Phase 2A seats and register at later phases e.g. Phase 2B/2C. Gamblers whom lose went on to place another bets (e.g. Phase 2C supplement). Just to lighten the moods a bit with this example but I feel the tense feelings at P1 registration can indeed beat that at casino tables.

I like your analogy :heresmyfish: but on the gaming table, money lost now can be won back later. A place in a school lost is a good few years.
Not impossible. I know of parents whom do a successful transfers to 'good or more popular' schools when the child is in P2 or P3.

My husband n I were there too m heard the same thing. Surprised to see lower figures. Kohbheng can u confirm if the staff also said something about balloting?

No the staff just told us to wait for the letter.
Maybe cos no balloting required for Haig Girls historically.

Question - With the latest update in the MOE website, it appears popular school eg. Nanyang pri, Henry Park pri, ACS (Junior) have good ration(registered vs availability). Can >2km apply? What are the chances? Do I understand correctly that under Phase 2C, anyone can apply? Be it SC, PR, within or not within 1km, outside 2km?

Yes, any SC and PR can apply. However, if a school already knows that there will be balloting for SC within 1 km, for example, they might advise you perhaps not to apply if you are PR, or SC beyond 1 km, because your chances of getting in will be zero. I think that depends on the school it would be prudent to look elsewhere anyway if you are already outside the balloting criteria for the school.

Some schools only accept SC and stay within 1km if oversubscribe. The administrators will advise the parents to try another school.

Help me understand more. Eg. Henry Park, it says in the MOE update that balloting for outside 2km. Does that mean outside 2km applicants will be considered and put thru balloting? If so, that parents of the >2km will stand a chance?

Informed by the staff that I am 48 applicant which stayed within 1KM eyeing for 43 vancancies and high chance required balloting cos majority is SCs. ballot will conduct on next week tuesday. Today figures still have not include tomorrow registration.
