Choose Secondary school for 2010

jas3angels:
It is clearly stated in the PSLE Booklets given out to the kids in October that the kid will be posted to his choice of secondary provided he meets the cut off point and there are vacancies available. Hence, the child will be posted to his 1st choice school, failing which, 2nd choice, then 3rd choice etc. He will only be posted to his last choice school if he is unable to secure a place in his 1st-5th choices. And given the scenario your colleague has spelt out, this will never happen. If he scores >270, he will definitely be posted into his 1st choice school whose COP is 240.hi,
my understanding for posting of sec is different from my colleague. both our kids are in psle this yr. according to my colleague, if a kid got 270 and if his/her top 5 choices sec sch COP is around 240 to 250 and last choice is 1 of the top sch with COP 260 and above, MOE will auto post the kid to the last choice of sch. is it true? -

I agree that this is a very big advantage. This is also the reason why my alma mater was so popular.
Hi CrazyDad,CrazyDad:
Hi Turquoise,
what is the advantage of choosing a secondary school that is affliated to JC?
Some secondary schools that are affliated to JCs offer bonus points for existing students applying to their affliated JC. For eg., MGS and ACS are affliated to ACJC. Hence, students from MGS, ACS(I) and ACS(B) will get 2 bonus points off their 'O' Level results when they apply for ACJC.
This is my parent's analysis:
Primary School -> PL Pri
If do well at PSLE, move on to MGS or other better schools.
If don't do well, go on to PL Sec (until this yr, you can get into Express with just 190 if you are from PL Pri - not too sure about the future affiliation scheme of bonus points).
After 'O' levels, can get 2 bonus points to go ACJC. Most PL girls will do well enough to go JC.
That's why it's very impt to choose a good primary school, & also make a wise decision on secondary school. Especially for my parents, since their kids are not gifted or geniuses
But honestly, I've friends who scored 190+ in PSLE, move on to PL Sec. Did well in S2 & move on to pure science class. Even my own sister who only got 198 for PSLE is in the 3rd express class in her level! -
Thanks luckystar and turquoise.
ya, this is what i told her. she said this is what her ds' sch told her and she said it has mentioned in booklet 2. she even confirm with my another colleague and my another colleague agreed with her. :stupid: :x -

My girl scored 238 in her PSLE. Any suggestions for a good sec school around Ang Mo Kio? Is Anderson Sec within reach?

Anderson last year COP 248. You can try Zhonghua at Serangoon COP 238. They have AEP and science progamme. Open house this coming SAT.
