My husband and my son were watching the exciting table-tennis match. Could see that my son was very proud of Feng TW when she won the bronze medal. Singapore spirit? I think sports is one way that can bring up the Singapore spirit.
Yes! Agree! It is so wonderful to see the Singapore flag as it rises at the podium, esp. now the same flag is flying everywhere with National Day coming. Think PM sure to add a note on this in his speech.

I agree with the above. No doubt I am against influx of foreigners, certain areas like in sports could possibly spearhead our development in this area, and I also feel the need to put aside such casting of doubts on their loyalty. Whatever they do later, or how they feel inside, unless they do something like running around with the national flag of their hometown instead of ours when they are rep. us, is really not my area of concern. I am proud of their accomplishments for our country.
It puts us to shame because we still argue of \"purity\" of citizenship and find every opportunity to find fault with new immigrants and cast aspersion on their loyalty. the more we do so, the more they feel ostracized even as they try to belong -

After watching and reading their media, I also think this is the case. In fact, there is sometimes the over-tendency to see things this way that Singapore is :? to many of them because we are more westernized in our thinking, very unlike themselves. Uniquely Singapore.
here is the mindset of the PRC people :
1. if it is PRC player vs ex-PRC player, they will cheer for their citizen
2. if the player is ex-PRC, and is vs another nationality, they will cheer for the ex-PRC, because they are proud of their heritage of Chinese people, regardless of nationality
3. if the player is overseas chinese vs non-Chinese, they will cheer the overseas Chinese....because of the 5000 years of \"blood line\" descendants of the dragon....
after dealing with the various levels of Chinese people and authority for the last 20+ years, I am certain this is their way of thinking.

I know what you mean - there are so many events in swimming alone I also cannot recall precisely which one - have to check - oh yes, it is the 100m Breaststroke! - Lithuanian 15-year-old, Ruta Meilutyte.
How come one one questioned when 15 years old girl won gold medal in one swimming event (which event? my poor head? :slapshead: )
Phelp's only Gold so far is the team win, which his teammates have given him a big lead for, but it is reported in the media like it had been an individual win, and such a heroic one. -

haha this one is not Asian ma.... :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

I think har, China is a threat to the US is so obvious here. Somehow, Leonard BELIEVES it to be the case despite negative results of drug tests, the BELIEF that China is using something more advanced than can be detected, the belief that China IS more advanced than the west now.

I feel sorry for them, expounding on negative energy and heighten their anxiety on the \"unexplained\" after all medical reports showed negative? :siao:
