Usually will have 1-3 school within 1km, but parents have preference for better school thus need balloting for the popular ones.

but now even all the schools within 1km all also need to ballot..

Is that a fact? If so, it's good that there is actually so much choice for most people then. (We only have 1 school within 1km, so I'm a bit clouded by that.)

        To summarise the stats:
50 out of the 94 schools balloting are for SC<1km only.
Hence 50 schools will have disappointed SC families staying near by.

(A further 15 schools will only take PRs within 1km, but hey, focus on the SC first.)

I'd need to know the proximity stats for the earlier phases before I could draw any conclusions about fairness, but on the surface it seems like the system is not quite working optimally: i.e. many places are taken up by families who might not live anywhere near the school or have any involvement with the local community before those living near by get a look in (or not).

          .
provided that those SCs living within the 15 sch decided to change their minds ( but prolly these SCs have already registered elsewhere in better sch in their neighborhood) ...then the 15 sch can focus on them... :boogie:

for my area... i got 5 sch nearby but 2 of the more popular are getting a balloting for SC within 1km and for between 1-2km... so again its the parents ourselves who created this result... :rotflmao:

            Xxxx,

            I agree with you too.

The earlier phases have taken up many seats eg alumni and siblings or parents during in that particular school of choice.

Take a look at Henry park and ACS primary, only less than 20 vacancies for phase 2b and 2c each.

Don't forget to count the other 93 or so schools that are not balloting where everybody who applied got in, otherwise your conclusion will be skewed.

I agree with you that parents created this result. More and more parents will try to buy a home <1km to preferred sch and cause the event of ballot. I think no best way to resolve this issue.

                  totally agree

                  Eh, not really true here.
Only 1 school within 1km around my place...and that sch is...Rosyth...sigh.
Next nearest is Hougang Pri, also in balloting <1km.

I have 3 schools <1km, 2 need balloting for SC <1km (Anderson & St Nick), the other one have a lot of vacancies (Mayflower). So I guess its depends on parents, since the other one still have a lot just try luck and if cannot get in just take the one with a lot left… For me, my dd went in thru Phase 1.

[quote="pirate"]Sure. I’m only talking about the subset that are balloting.

It seems disfunctional to have such fierce competition at <1km.

I wanted to know if this is an unintended consequence of the current rules of the game, or if it is considered satisfactory to the majority.
