XXXX:
Don't forget to count the other 93 or so schools that are not balloting where everybody who applied got in, otherwise your conclusion will be skewed.50 out of the 94 schools balloting are for SC<1km only.
Hence 50 schools will have disappointed SC families staying near by. -

I agree with you that parents created this result. More and more parents will try to buy a home <1km to preferred sch and cause the event of ballot. I think no best way to resolve this issue.
provided that those SCs living within the 15 sch decided to change their minds ( but prolly these SCs have already registered elsewhere in better sch in their neighborhood) ...then the 15 sch can focus on them... :boogie:XXXX:
(A further 15 schools will only take PRs within 1km, but hey, focus on the SC first.)
.
for my area... i got 5 sch nearby but 2 of the more popular are getting a balloting for SC within 1km and for between 1-2km... so again its the parents ourselves who created this result... :rotflmao: -

Eh, not really true here.sglady:
Usually will have 1-3 school within 1km, but parents have preference for better school thus need balloting for the popular ones.
totally agree
Only 1 school within 1km around my place...and that sch is...Rosyth...sigh.
Next nearest is Hougang Pri, also in balloting <1km. -

I got no school within 1km but I do have a community center next door. Lucky I got my dd in thro phase 2a if not I will :slapshead:Eh, not really true here.

I have 3 schools <1km, 2 need balloting for SC <1km (Anderson & St Nick), the other one have a lot of vacancies (Mayflower). So I guess its depends on parents, since the other one still have a lot just try luck and if cannot get in just take the one with a lot left… For me, my dd went in thru Phase 1.

[quote="pirate"]Sure. I’m only talking about the subset that are balloting.
It seems disfunctional to have such fierce competition at <1km.
I wanted to know if this is an unintended consequence of the current rules of the game, or if it is considered satisfactory to the majority. -
over population of SC?? i think gov have to do something if not alot of kids will have to travel a distance to school.

Hi allSchools Conducting Balloting (as at 3 August 2012)
Balloting at Phase 2C will be conducted on Tuesday, 7 August 2012. The schools have informed parents concerned of the balloting time. Parents are welcome to witness the conduct of the balloting...
there are many schools which are conducting balloting for SCs with over 1 more applicant, is it possible that if all the parents cooperate of those respective schools make a letter and appeal to the principals to accept that 1 student without any balloting, so that all the parents would be satisfied and be happy also for the kids being in their dream school.
Even if there are 2 more applicants let them go for balloting -

...foreign Singapore citizen also..
What precisely is a foreign Singapore citizen? You mean a new citizen? Or a Singaporean who is now a citizen of another country? -
Is there a balloting for Phase 2C(S) as well? Or is it a first come, first served?
