yes.......this statement (in bold) is very very true for rgs.
Hi NatTif Mummy,
From what I've heard from current RGS parents, it's not so much about the pupils choosing the CCA but rather, the CCA 'choosing' them.
As all pupils have to enrol in at least 1 core CCA (all involved in national competitions), there will apparently be strict auditions for almost all the CCAs. For eg, my friend shared that her dd could not get a place in the choir a few years ago as she ONLY had a Grade 5 in piano and all those selected had to have at least Grade 6 and above !!! She was allocated a uniformed group (not her choice!) instead. The girl was miserable for 2 years but seems to be starting to enjoy the CCA in Sec 3.
Unfortunately, it is no longer the same as selecting a CCA for primary school, where one can choose a preferred CCA. It seems to me that you have to excel in that area before you will be considered, as RGS is one of the top girls' school for sports and performing arts, so only the 'best' will be invited to join. Hence, be prepared to get a CCA you may not be very passionate about.
my niece is currently in rgs sec 2.
she got rejected for almost all the choices of CCA.
luckily, she has got some grades in piano, so she could join the band, but it's something not in her likes list as the practices' hrs are long and tiring. heard quite a few of her friends also got into the CCA which they dislike.
as a result of the above, my gal got \"frighten off\" by her cousin.........as she is neither good in sports nor uni grp, so rgs would not be her choices of sch. -

Hi,Yes at RGS there are selections / trials for every CCA, even uniform groups. Most girls will usually pick at least a few CCAs to try out for - and hope to be selected for at least a desired one. There will be a couple of dates posted for the various CCAs selections / trials and at the initial stage you would have to register for selections / trials for all those CCAs you are interested in. On trial date, for uniform group selection, it's more an interview process, whereas for choir, dance, gymnastics and the sports CCAs, it would be actual try-outs, where the girls have to actually sing (solo), dance (group) and play that sport to be selected.
It really is not a case where you have an interest in that area and you want to pursue it further as a CCA, but more whether you meet the mark to be selected for it in the first instance.
Any idea if it is difficult to get into Guitar Ensemble in RGS? Will there be any audition? How is the practice frequency like? -
can I check if PSLE result 261 should apply and try for RGSS?
-
you can try but personally I think it is a bit risky. Suspect cut off will be around 265 but no harm trying. can also appeal if you donβt think it is troublesome later. Good Luck.

I've never been to Raffles Girls' Secondary but i'm considering it for my secondary school. Does anyone know how is it inside or know of any blogs that contain photos of rgs or have photos of the inside of rgs themselves?
If you do, can you please post (the link/information/photos) here or email them to me at [email protected]?
Thank you!!!!!!
