Is 10th August a school holiday for your kid's school?

It is the principle that needs to be protected. Once it becomes acceptable to use wkends for certain activities, very soon effort will not be made to make use of available time within wkday and will easily spill into wkends.
It's like only once or twice per year, not every weekend or every month..limlim:
Need work-life balance. -

Eh, no leh, the PVs fr my school are ordinary pple who work. They apply leave. Even for me a sahm, I still have to find babysitter, no maid to help out. It's not a breeze for me to find time to PV at that time. The school was kind and help all the parents to fulfill the hours. While parents complains that PV favours the rich and PRs who don't need to work..
I am quite upset that practically all the PC volunteer roles requires weekday commitment. This effectively close the door on parents who needs to work. -

I just quote some of the remarks from elsewhere.. I never complain about PVs.. Actually I feel PV is good but that is OT..

Anyway, PV is for the P1 enrolment.. I wouldn't go into detail what parents do to get that place in the school. Let's just say.. it is not that easy to volunteer.. -
OT a bit. Limlim, your children don’t go absc right? Then who takes care of them after school hours?

Whether easy or not, perceived as elitist, as in the PV service required, or not very much depend on the school of choice. These choices are made by the parents. Parents can walk away, there are many primary schools. It is really not do or die.
Not targeting at you, just making a comment on this topic though it's OT -

Agree. It's again a choice. But many 放不下 (cannot let go) & it manifest to 'unhappiness'.

It's a norm...the day after national day is a school holiday for primary school. This day is to allow participants of NDP to rest. Yes, a perfect day to revise for the P6sAs per title.
If it is, why is it a school holiday?

I guess.. No. It is \"no need to work\". But they may be called up for duties for some days..Imami:
If they have al, so the school holidays is just \"no need to teach\" only, not no need to work right? If want to go vacation during school holidays, need to apply leave right?
so if they going vacation.. not say need to \"apply leave\" but maybe need to inform the school in advance. But then, maybe teacher can confirm as my info may not be accurate.
Just like NSmen..
When they go overseas, they need to inform Mindef.
edit: AL is 12 days, not 14.
[quote]School Holidays
The school year is from January to December each year. There is a total of 12 weeks of school holidays a year. Teachers may be called up for duty during the school vacation.
I dun think teacher got 10 weeks of leave.... Most of the time first week of jun n dec holiday is for remedial classes and cca. Last week of jun n dec is for meeting n preparation of new term work. For teachers who r in charge of sch team CCA will need to go back more often for practise .
For march n sep holiday , most sch will have 1 day meeting and 1-2days remedial. As for urgent leave , it is subject to P approval. My friend try to apply leave for his wedding n his P told him to hold it during sch holiday.
Even for child care leave, I heard of VP asking the teacher can take half day instead. The grass is always greener on the side. -

I don't like sch activities on weekends....because weekends have tuition classes to attend!

:snuggles: can't agree more. School teachers should try their best to stick to ciriculum time. Having extra remedial upsets other activities that we plan for our kids. Tuition, piano, violin lessons etc has to be cancelled. Worst will be there's no replacement lesson.
Quote from my ex boss \"working OT is not an indication that the workers are hardworking, it's a sign that these workers are inefficient!\"
I guess the same applies to teachers being efficient to cover all topics during the stipulated school hours and not call for remedial. -

It's good of you to clear the misconception. My colleague's wife teaching in a sec sch had only 3 off days during the jun holidays. Rest of the time she was back in sch for one thing or another.
