I wonder where are the 21 parents going to send their daughter's to if they don't not get into SCGS...?

Marymount left 24 seats, for P2(C) Supp.

most of the residents staying < 1km from SCGS, are they located less than 2 km, or > 2km from Marymount ?

      Cannosa Convent also got seats.
else the 21 parents can write in appeal to SCGS Principal, see if can open extra new class to absorb them.

Yes, SCGS has done away with admission tests. I am not sure if this is a good or bad news. To me, admission tests are more objective and everyone stands equal chance.

Now without admission tests, what will be the criteria? First come first served on the wait list?
SCGS has done away with admission tests only for P1, or for All levels including P2 to P5 as well ?

i agree with you that without admission tests as a gauge (especially for P2 to P5), it is even harder to decide who to offer to, should a vacancy arise. Different primary school have different standard. The admission tests provide a common platform to assess every individual student - regardless of which primary school pupil comes from. Now everything is subjected to the sole discretion of SCGS Principal / VP.

SCGS did not have to ballot the past few years for phase 2C. why the sudden surge in applications? sigh…

where to apply if my child really cannot get in the school that is within the vicinity? balestier hill pri? NOOOOOOO
is it difficult to be a parent volunteer at SCGS? i heard they only take in doctors and lawyers…

This year under 2C, balloting took place for SC within 1 km.

Thus only way to secure SCGS seat for SC is to come in via earlier phase 2B :- because all < 2km got in; only 2B > 2km then need to ballot :-

            http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=487&start=940

going forward (from next year registration onwards) :-

            i)
this year results indicated that is pointless for any PR in future to offer PV at SCGS.

            ii)
2007 kids population even > 2006 kids born.
Looking at 2007 birth & new citizen statistics, it is likely more SC children vying for places in SCGS, ACS 2014 and 2015 intake.
SC staying (within 1 to 2 km) distance range thus face high risk, even under 2B.

            ===============================================

Strange ! St Marg used to have many seats left for 2C (Supp) in past history, before this year 2012 when the rule changed to give SC prority.

Actually, I think the number of applications for this phase has stayed the same. It’s the no. of siblings and alumni that have increased and they may not stay within 1 km. So much so, even the GRL and PVs were affected in P2B. Historically, P2B is also sure-in. So actually, there’s nothing we could have done abt it… I think the no of residents registering within 1 km in fact is less than average (excluding last year 43).

Yes. The no of applicants for phase 1 and 2a have risen across the board, for most of the schools that are conducting balloting on the 7th Aug. So it’s not just SCGS alumni, but the alumni of many other schools that have recently rediscovered a wish to pass on their heritage to their children.

But it’s good to pass on our heritage to the younger generation. It gives them a sense of continuity, pride in their ancestors past, and determination to work for Singapore’s future.

Applause applause. There should be more people who are willing to take actions to change things and make things right than just complain and do nothing. Hope with you actions, some people will get caught and hopefully by \"killing 1 to silent 100\" as the saying goes, it can reduce rampant cheating cases as is happening now.

I am afraid to say those who wish you ill might be those who are cheating now? :yikes:

Wish you all the best! :rahrah:

                  P1 mummy:
Just to clarify for those who are getting lost among the trees. Very simple. I have no issue with genuine residents in the area competing for a place in whichever school they try to get their kids into. I have no god given right - but I do have more of a right (legally) than some. In summary:

                  1. Own and live in a property less than 1km for many years - no issue
                  2. Recently bought or rented a property less than 1km AND actually live there - no issue

                  3. Bought or rented a place for P1 registration BUT still living elsewhere within Singapore - illegal and considered cheating
                  4. Using a parents/relatives/friends address for P1 registration without filling out a statutory declaration as you will only be considered as a 1-2km applicant - illegal and considered cheating.

I shall pursue those in categories 3 & 4 as cheats. It will take a few weeks and will almost definitely occur after balloting - but they will get caught eventually. No doubt. Question rightly or wrongly that how is is this possible. But don't be so naive to think it's okay to cheat and get away with it.

Why do people have a problem in outing those who clearly cheat. This is part of the problem as to why foreigners prosper over us singaporeans - they act decisively when needed. When we do it - people pray for our downfall. Wake up!

My words may be strong but my actions are far stronger!
