Hi all, PSLE Chinese Oral is round the corner. Just to check, does ur DC memorise some of the impressive phrases so as to score higher point? I recently met a teacher friend and he shared some tips with me that some DC memorise these phrases by heart. But when it comes to the actual oral day, some got too panick and forget these phrases And they cried in front of the examiner. What’s your take ? Do your DC have the same strategy or U want them to talk it naturally ?

It is good to know some standard phrases so that they can use at the appropriate places (appropriate place is critical). In that way, they can save some time. But they should be well trained to skip and continue if they forget. They should not spend time to remember the exact sentence. This happened with my DD once NOT in the ORAl but in a competition. Hope this helps.

Memorize some phrases to score, but no need to be exact bcos child will be stressed out facing the unfamilar examiners. Atmosphere is tense. As long as something is memorized, then play by ear when facing the pic. Something already in the head beats having to think up something new on the spot.

Is it too late to get tutor for my P6 son. He seems to loss interest in his study this year and result has gone from bad to worst. I am worried that he cannot get to even express class next year.

Most of the tutors for P6 probably already packed with schedules for their current students. You could still try though.

Alternatively, you can sit down and go through with him all those past year exam papers and his school's CA, SA and Prelims to see which section he is really weak in. If you can , try to strengthen his concepts by practising more of those weaker areas.

Some kids lose interest because they did badly for their SAs or Prelims. They get discouraged. You can encourage him by saying that PSLE is still about 2 months - he can still revise and get good grades if he puts in effort.

Most important, you don't lose heart as a parent. Be there for him.

All the best to you and your child !

Thanks fightingmom. I really do not know what to do with him now. He would rather sleep, wonder about than sit down with me to seriously go through the paper.

I am sorry to hear that. Is there a way you can encourage him? May b have a heart to heart talk with him to find out what happen.
It's a critical time now & it's a nightmare for any parents when the kid just go into hibernation. Hope he wakes up fast.

Some tuition centres offer PSLE intensive classes. Call them asap to check their schedule.

Not easy to get a home tutor now. Left one month only, not much time left for revision. You can try tuition centres. Some of them offer PSLE intensive classes. Motivation is still more important than revision. All the best to your son.
