I was from one of the SAP schools in the East, and I felt it really benefited me as I became very interested in the Chinese language and always got A1. However, now my Chinese is a little rusty alr. No problem reading and speaking but not writing.

Besides, I guess the syllabuses now are radically different. Do the students have to recite Tang Shi etc?

Hi! I’m a newbie to this form. My girl just got a place for a SAP school in the East. It’s not that I want her to go for a SAP school specifically. It’s just because we live within 5min walk from it. Can I get some advice on what is a SAP school like? How is it different from normal schools? TIA!

SAP schools, whether Pri or Sec level, have only Chinese students. It can be a good or not so good thing. SAP schs also offer Higher Chinese as a compulsory subject. Hence, more emphasis on Chinese and Chinese culture.

                  Wrong.

There are other races, these students are a minority but they are taking HCL.

You would be surprise their proficiency level in the language is way ahead of many Chinese kids....

Eh... I have to dispute that cos my dd is from a SAP school and 2 of her classmates - one Korean and one Eurasian , both taking HCL with average score of 85% for P5 and recently Prelims.

Oh I didn’t know that. That certainly wasn’t the case during my time in a SAP sch. Perhaps the immigration policy back then was not so open. Then it’s a good thing to have some plurality in class. By the way, is there a difference btwn the HCL in a SAP sch compared to HCL in a neighbourhood sch?

My ds is in a SAP school. Other than taking HCL from P1 onwards, his social studies and health education are in Chinese too. Their Chinese Dept is bigger than the English Dept.
