last year, when I applied for DSA, i was in GEP and met the requirements (above 75/80 %). I received no news from them except for a notice that I was shortlisted (it took quite some time).
I heard , last year, there were some GEPs who got offer without interview. How did you know your DD is not shortlisted? the interview is still going on. Why not call them ?tiramisu515:
Hi all,
My dd applied for DSA (track and field) but was not short listed for interview recently.
Does that means she has absolutely no chance?
I hear from some source that some pupils may bypass the interview process and are given a place directly because of good trials ranking and good GAT result. Is this true?
Please share. Thanks.
I'll say that its either confirmed or waiting list. My friends who were not accepted via GEP knew the results slightly earlier than those confirmed ones.
good luck!

Thank you for sharing, and I glad that your teacher has made learing chinese interesting.hi, im a student in NYGH now. They do a lot to help weaker students with their Chinese. However, the learning system is not for the lazy and uninterested. My teacher gives a self-learning worksheet for each chapter in the textbook, which includes several practice questions and some links to good resources with quizzes to ensure that we fully understand the chapter. She does not require us to hand in such work, but she would go through the chapter roughly to clarify our doubts. She spends more time telling us stories in Chinese about China history (I learnt more during Chinese lessons than during History lessons) and general knowledge.
However, some students take this the wrong way. Instead, they see the lessons as \"no homework\" or \"do other homework\" or \"play phone time\". My teacher does not like to reprimand them, but also speaks to the class often about attitude.
The only reasons some students do not do well in Chinese is that they have the wrong attitude, do not put in effort, or that they are not strong in the language (not many, but they do try very hard to improve.)
hope this helps
i've grown to love Chinese more than the language I use the most in conversations (English)
May I ask about the general environment as a whole? That is, generally, are the teachers helpful and supportive? Also, are the students competitive amongst themselves? Out of curiosity, generally, do you need to stay up till 1 or 2 am every night to complete your work?
Thanks. -

It is rather competitive in school, and some teachers like to compare the GEP class with the mainstream classes. But this competitiveness is good, and encourages us to do even better. Within the class, it is possible to see that we try hard to get an A1 (which was not hard for the first test, but as the tests get more challenging…) getting an A2 is the goal for most people.
The teachers are very supportive, though sometimes it can be annoying when they get you to do ‘self-learning’ and speak indirectly when you ask for help because they do not want to ‘spoon-feed’. They are very open and encourage us to make appointments during recesses if we need extra help.
I’m the earliest sleeper in my class as I sleep at 10-10.30 most of the time. It might be because my travelling time is only 45 min or so and my CCA is not the kind that is very busy. (those hectic ones are mainly performing arts and some sports, the clubs and societies are more relaxed. -

Great to know that your child's dream school is NYGHMy DD is in CO and she plays the cello. NYGH is her dream school. We are going to try DSA and I would like to seek some parents' here.
Any of your child is in CO? Anyone plays the cello? Are there many cellist in CO? My friend told me, if for a particular year, the school doesn't need many cellist (or RUAN, Er-hu etc), the school will limit the number of DSA. Is it true?
Hope some mummies & daddies can give me some advise. TIA.
yay:)
I'm a student in one of NYGH's performing arts group.
Not a lot of cellist in CO though, but you can try to DSA into Strings!
Strings have quite a number of cellist!
Anyway good luck! hope to see your child in NYGH soon! -

You have a positive attitude! :boogie: luckily for you, the sch only has around 2/3 GEP classes...jaztxm:
IP is like that very into self learning ... They really teach less but expect you to learn more...... on your ownThe teachers are very supportive, though sometimes it can be annoying when they get you to do 'self-learning' and speak indirectly when you ask for help because they do not want to 'spoon-feed'. It's always great to see students sharing in the school threads, giving us parents more insights to each school. Parents talking to parents may not reveal the full picture... Thanks for sharing!

Hi
My DD applied for NYGH DSA. She attended the interview in mid Jul. To date, there is no news from the school on the outcome. Anyone knows when will the results be out? I understand the results from other IP schools like RGS, RI, HCI, NUSH are all out already. TIA -

Please refer to the DSA forum. There is a discussion going on and we were told that it is today or tomorrow. Sorry, I do not know how to link the page for you.
Best wishes and good luck!
