active alumni should continue to receive the priority. the dormant one should just be under 2C
Support this idea but somehow still feel P2A should be capped because sooner or later all alumni will say they are the active ones and the admin will find it difficult to draw the line.

Am glad more people are writing in to ST forum (today) about \"Too much priority given to children of alumni\":

        http://www.straitstimes.com/premium/forum-letters/story/plug-rent-and-register-loophole

IN MANY countries, renting a home is a perfectly acceptable way of having a roof over one's head (\"Let couples who own shoebox units buy resale flats\" by Mr Elgar Lee, and \"Parents 'renting' their way to popular schools?\"; both published on Tuesday).

Singaporeans should be more open to renting as a way of living.

As for parents who rent flats near popular schools, I am very concerned that they are portrayed as doing something wrong, even illegal.

There may be many reasons why parents prefer to rent a home near a school instead of buying it. Perhaps the home they are living in cannot be sold, or their finances are currently tied up.

        Khoo Boon Lee (Madam)

        http://www.straitstimes.com/premium/forum-letters/story/find-out-why-parents-rent-homes-near-schools

bona fide renter should not be penalised. scam and sham rental should be punished

I don't care about whatever reasons they want to rent a flat. As long as they indeed stay in it, it is okay. And in consideration of interest of the child, it is absolutely legitimate.

What is not acceptable are pple who rent, use the address, but does not actually stay in it or have secondary accommodation.

            So which is more acceptable?

Those alumni registering their kids to their old school far far away from home and taking up places of the school at the expense of those who stay very very near and this stay near group had to end up registering their child at a school much further from home or those who rent a place nearby so as to get into their desired school but had the intention to genuinely stay there?

            Just for discussion sake. 🆒

Honesty I feel using of fake address is still minority. MOE should review and solve the bigger issue first. Agree with article that alumni are taking up significant number of places and there should be a cap to it. Looking at this year situation, enrollment for next few years is going to be bigger headache for parents and increasingly stressful. Birth rate is higher compare to 2006 doggy babies. Our dear Mr Heng, it’s time to get your people to wake up and do something!

So those P2A staying at Pulau Ubin or Johor taking up places in their old school in East Coast, Jurong or Toa Payoh is OK but we cannot tolerate someone genuinely renting a place to stay near school, knowing it is not 100% guarenteed, to secure a place in their desired school?

                🆒

those P2A kids staying at Pulau Ubin or Johore Bahru, but everyday come out via causeway very early morning by school bus to attend schools like Nanyang primary ... are these SC or PRs ?

if for so many years their kid still PR, I seriously doubt their commitment.
                  do they deserve priority ?

SCs. It's an exaggerated illustration of how P2A makes a mockery of the registration system that stresses importance of home school distance.

                    For friendly discussion.

                    😄

Are you sure those kids who take bus from JB attend Nanyang? I thought I saw documentary like this before…they take buses to attend schools in woodlands area. 4 or 5am, these poor kids are already on the bus. But Nanyang?
