an interesting comparison of prize money for the Games. There is none for Britain but winners will have their faces printed onto stamps as a form of appreciation. Ours should be the highest offered in the world.
Singapore is among the top in many areas, perhaps sometimes being too eager to be among the top in all areas is not good for a small country.
In any case, you are right, everything has its downside when carried too far.

optimistforum:
dis is one of best Olympics for GB in terms of gold n total medals won, isn't it?The Olympics have been great, here in the UK.
I was sceptical at first, as we never normally win anything. Alas, I see a plethiora of medals (including Gold) won by Team GB!!!optimistforum:
Its a shame isn't it dat those who wants to watch d games can't purchase tickets whereas those who were issued free tickets don't turn up to watch. On a different note I have had to take a different route into work as Olympics knockout football matches were being played at the local stadium. A lot of seats are empty (no doubt corporate tickets not used) but I was still unable to get any tickets for the evening matches.
We had d same situation here initially with YOG 2010.
Just how many tickets were made available to d general public for d Olympics?
Heard dat out of 2.1 mil tickets available for d Paralympics 2012, only 100,000 were left for general public. -

Here's another one:
Why do swimmers have a string that hangs down from the middle of their goggles?
In the swimming, a few of the swimmers look like there is a string hanging from the middle of their goggles. At first we thought the guy hadn't cut the tag off his goggles, but then they showed another guy with the same type of white string hanging from the middle. What is the purpose of this?
The swimmers were wearing Swedish goggles, or a version of them, a type of goggles worn by elite swimmers because they can customize the fit. The string is used to connect the eye pieces. A little rubber tube is used between the eye pieces to cover the string and enclose the edges, but as you see, some swimmers have no problem with the edges hanging out.

Why do table tennis players touch the table?
It's part ritual, part physical, and part mental.
Physically, the player is wiping the sweat from his hand onto the table in a spot that is not likely to be used during play (when wiping his hand near the net). This allows him to 'towel off' his hand without actually having to wait for the allowed 6 point towel off interval. When wiping his hand near the endline, the player is usually wiping off drops of sweat (or occasionally, small fragments of rubber from the bat) that have fallen on to the table.
Mentally, the time it takes to wipe his hand gives the player a chance to take a few extra seconds to compose himself if he needs it. Plus there is always the chance that it will aggravate and distract his opponent who has to wait for him to get back to behind the endline before the next point can begin.
Ritual wise - some players just get in the habit of doing it, and keep doing it whether they really need to or not. Just like how some players bounce the ball on the table or on their racket before serving - it's just part of the player's routine and he would feel strange without doing it.

You are right, seems it isn't the first time Korea wins in competition (whether over Japan or not I am not sure), but certainly not the first time winners are exempted from NS when it comes to major games like this!concern2:
