Opinions of the Primary School Registration System

Maybe MOE should consider rotating the teacher/ staffs of schools that have done well to other average schools on a regular basis (like maybe a 6 yr term for each teaching cohort). In this way, stds of all schools will improve over time. Teachers can get more job satisfaction and parents may be more willing to send their children to schools that are nearest their homes, rather than aiming for branded schools far away from their home. After all, no 2 schools can ever be equal but it will be good if their stds are not too far away from each other :boogie:

really cannot think of a fair system because not in education line, but if singapore education can be so famous, most likely moe is doing the right stuffs. i just say the suggestion of moe assigning our kids because of the pressure we have in registering our kids. we want the best for our child and if we can't get the school of choice, we feel so sorry to them. aih... how good if all schools are equal..

i love this suggestion, try to equalise the standards of all schools and passing on the good techniques and values so all schools can be branded in the eyes of the parents and the world.. -

That's why they are trying to make and say all schools are same and equally good........

Not 2C lah.. that is too much.. Let the PRs have a go at 2C..If a PR has been staying in SG, married a SC and have kids born here, they should have applied to be SC. But I agree that PRs should register only after phase 2C.
The first issue of giving SCs priority when registering for P1 is settled. Now the next would be kids in phases 1-2C should be SCs. Hopefully this will free up more vacancies.
Afterall, the number isn't that significant.. The seats taken by 2A to 2B far outweighs those taken by PRs at 2C.
Don't forget, at 2C, All SCs are admitted first before PRs.
That is already significant priority already. -
If we (the SCs) want absolute priority over the PRs, we need to up our birth rate. Do try and look at things on a broader scheme of things, not just focus on pri one registration. Ok now, before anyone start flaming me, FYI - my child will most likely have to ballot for his application in any of the two schools which are within 1km. There are three primary school within 1km of where we stay. Of which, two needs balloting for those within 1km. So, like most parents who want to push for more priority given to SCs, I will also benefit from the higher priority given.
But I feel that credits should be given to the PRs too. I have a friend who is a PR. She married a sg man and is staying with his family in sg. She can’t convert to singaporean because of some family issue back in her Indonesian home. Something like if she convert, she cannot own any property in indonesia. As she is the only child, she would need to takeover the property when her parents pass on.
For her, it is not as simple as "I just want free lunch in sg". It is her family home. A place she grew up in. How to give up…? Not easy. -

hahah... ya, but that doesn't seem so convincing to the parents. anyway, i will experience the p1 registration next year and every day and night, i am telling myself, all schools are good, all schools are good, all schools are good....after a year, may be i will believe all schools are good... -
Instead of picking on PRs, I think perhaps there is a need to seriously look into priority given to alumni? Alumni’s kid’s are in an earlier phase than Grassroot leaders and PVs right? How fair is that?
Grassroots leaders serve the community. pVs put in effort to serve their choice of schools. What about passive alumni members?
Move around related topics/threads you will find folks saying things like "I stay punggol leh, but my wifey was alumni of chij. So we are putting our kid’s thru priority phase via the alumni route even though our kid needs to spend 2hr commuting daily." for those of us who live only a stone throw from that particular school, 锤不锤?
But I salute to those going the alumni route who move nearer to their alma mata so that their kid’s need not commute so much. In my heart, they win (me).
