Total cost for maintaining a maid

Zhuge:
does it mean that in the 1st 7-8 mths, no need to pay the maid salary, because this has been given to the agency as part of her loan?
Yes. You would have paid a lump sum to the agent when you pick her up and the amount will be deducted monthly until it's all paid off. However, you have to give her $10/month as pocket money but it is also a part that makes up the total salary.
This amount is the helper's fee to the agency to bring her over which is equivalent to 7-8months of her monthly salary. Usually, they won't be able to pay the agency up-front, therefore is a loan from the agency.MEinME:
the payment for maids loan - 7 to 8 mths...
is this part of the maid's salary for the 1st 7 to 8 mths?
Monthly expenses expected will be:
1) salary
2) foreign worker levy ($170 if you are working mom)
3) food
4) electricity and water
5) 6 monthly medical check up fee ( the clinic I go charged $20 because the doctor gave \"subsidized\" rate for domestic helper)
6) miscZhuge:
Sorry that I don't know what is this $35.2. what does the medical cover ($35) ? is it compulsory to have? if sick, can go polyclinic isn't it?
If going Polyclinic for medical treatment, they are considered foreigner, no subsidized rate. -

I am about to renew my maid, my first time, I thought I would save some $, but shocked to find out that not much savings here:-
(a) airticket for her home leave $350 on budget airline(She insists on going back during Christmas period)
(b) agency fees for handling her home leave $260
(c) admin fees paid to philippines Embassy $120

Hi,
I like to find out the total cost of maintaining a maid.
After reading stories about Burmese maid, I only dare to get an Indonesian one. Heard the new salary is now $460 per month.
In addition to that, need to provide her 3 meals every day.
Is there any other costs that are needed?
Please advise as I am totally new in this area..
Thanks! -

But the employer has to pay the money to the agency before the maid starts work i.e. the employer pays the maid's salary in advance.
So the 1st 7- 8 mths' salary's been paid already before she steps into yoiur house. So of course the payment is deducted from her salary for the first 7- 8 mths. -

Correct me if I'm wrong, for point #2... no mention abt working or non-working moms under MOM. As long as your household satisfies the criteria, you get the levy concession of $170.00.Monthly expenses expected will be:
1) salary
2) foreign worker levy ($170 if you are working mom)
3) food
4) electricity and water
5) 6 monthly medical check up fee ( the clinic I go charged $20 because the doctor gave \"subsidized\" rate for domestic helper)

Zhuge:
seem like the total cost of $3300+ per mth is quite a lot..
$3.3k is NOT per month total cost! :yikes: :faint:
This estimate cost(s) is/are to standby/have in hand should you intend to hire a domestic helper.
Monthly is... levy... salary (after loan is repayed)... meals & toiletries as per additional person's consumption/usage.Zhuge:
But of course.seem like one should hire a maid only when it is really necessary

Zhuge:
For a person to do labour intensive work within the household, the amount they're paid is not much if you put yourself in a helper's shoes. Would we do cleaning, cooking, taking care of children/babies some with elders with ailments etc etc for someone for only $400? :skeptical: Top that with no friends, cannot use hph as and when you like, confined to the house... etc etc?employer pay so much, maid dun get a lot...all those in between people gained..

Even SAHMs have their own stress having to DIY and what more its our own family our own household... so what more an outsider who does the routine for u?
Sorry, just reflecting...
As for the go-betweens who gained... they put their money in first to bring the helpers in right? So once the helpers are employed, it's payback time for the helpers. Right? -
If d helper really performs, is consider $ well spend.
Bt if turns out to b a holiday adventure for her… We r suckers…
Just my tots
