All About Life Without Maids

Errrhhhh, actually I only went there once. A relative claim fresh & cheap cos can buy in bulk.
So basically like those warehouse wholesaler.....there's both frozen & fresh seafood. I bought a big batang & split with my mom & bought frozen scallop & cod fish. There's stuff like lobster, prawn, frozen crab etc.
Cheaper? Maybe, I'm not sure tho.
My experience with cod fish --->> Wet market - good ones ~$50/kg. NTUC - debone is ~$52/kg & frozen ~$40/kg.....but often, the fishy smell/taste quite strong. The frozen cod fish from Song is $47/kg, no bones & little fishy smell....so I like it. Recently, they were at Jurong Point & I bought another 3 packs of cod fish & 1 pack of threadfin fillet to try. The threadfin was IMO satisfactory too @ $34/kg.

An alternative I guess

Angelight:
Dekora, buy those big storage boxes with covers from NTUC or GIANT and store all the toys inside. This will prevent dust from going in cos got cover. You can also tell your kids to keep their toys in the boxes after they had played, so to keep house tidy and the toys clean.

Angelight, is it those toyogo plastic containers with wheels type? But would it be difficult to take the toys out since it is quite big. Can't wait for my baby able to keep he own toy -

I have short shelves and cubby holes for my child to store his books and toys. We dedicated a corner as his play area and he knows that at the end of his play, he is to bring all his toys and books back to the play area.Dekora:
I'm using wondering what sort of storage u have for your kids toys and how often do u
Clean them? My kid's toy is stacking up and all over the place. And on top of that, it does gets dusty. Using water to clean them is it sufficient?
I used to clean the toys, shelves and play mat once a week when he was an infant. These days, I mop the play mat once a week, dust the shelves once every month. Toys, I wash/wipe them once every two month or so.
There is not much dust actually. my child reads his books so often that his little hands would have clean the books and shelves!
Imani, where did u buy your short shelves and chubby holes?
So envious that your kid is into reading. Any tips to start them on reading? Everywhere I go, I see kids holding onto iPhones and iPads more than storybooks!
When you wipe the toys and books, do u only use water? Or with detergent? -

When you wipe the toys and books, do u only use water? Or with detergent?[/quote]I made the short shelves myself – using thick carton boxes (e.g. those for tv, fridge etc). cut them into suitable sizes (usually 40cm x 40cm) and then bind them together (masking tape). They are surprisingly hardy. The first batch I did for my child 3 years back are still going strong. Wrapped the boxes in plain white papers, interior and exterior. If you like something colourful, run a ream or two colourful wrappers over. Usually, I cut out those colourful pictures from mags/newspapers/brochures and recycle them as décor for my child’s boxes/shelves.
Or you can get those diy shelves from Giant/Carrefour. Cheap and good.
I started off making some for my child when he was around 1 year old. As he was still very young, I didn’t think those pulp wood shelves are safe (sharp corners you know). So I decided to do some myself. I did some boxes too, so that it would be easier for him to pack his toys (e.g. blocks, train tracks) etc. those boxes were to facilitate training him to pack his own things. The number of shelves multiple as he reads more and more.
Starting to read – I think there is a time for everything, reading included. My child was only keen in books when he was 15 months. He would flip the pages and looked intensely at the pages but he only started reading at 18 months. It certainly helps that hubby and I are often seen reading – he reading his work papers/newspapers/trade journals, I read recipes, magazines etc. Now, he is reading quite a bit, so we have a lot of books at home.
When I wipe the books, I would use a slightly damp dusting cloth. Normal cloth is too wet. Too much moisture will ruin the books. For toys, if they can be dunk into the pail of water, I will dunk them and then plan a scrubbing session with my child (using a little toothbrush). It’s great bonding time and he get to learn about taking care of his stuff too. -
Oh yes, for toys – I would use a little dettol.

hi,
Has anybody tried using the hand held vacuum cleaner and the floor steamer? Need some advise and feedback. -
hand held vacuum is good for small area and not powerful. I use it to vacuum the curtains and just a small area where i drop some tiny bits of stuff.

Hi, just want to check anyone use the 360 D spin mop? Mine is only
In use for 4months and the plastic head came off. How do u get it fixed? Any idea? It’s such a pity because it only 4 months old and I still have 2 refill which I haven’t use. Can I send it for repair or not worthwhile? I bot it for $60. Are all the spin mops of such quality? I thought it should last a few years!!!
