Is GEP really necessary?

Interesting conversation here. I wonder why some gifted kids thrive in the programme and others don’t. Does it work better for moderately gifted kids and HA kids, and not for PG and 2E kids? But again, there have been PG and 2E kids who went through the programme right? But I think our primary schools do not cater at all to kids who are little philosophers or tinkerers. They need either a very thick skin or to develope their own mental capsule to get through the grind.

2E = twice exceptional (anything giftedness + learning disabilities)
PG = profoundly gifted (1 in a million, IQ>152)
EG = exceptionally gifted (1 in 100,000, 145<IQ<152)
GEP = take out those very gifted in specific areas, and then take 1 in 100 of the remainder. (IQ >120)
HA = High Ability student not necessarily gifted (IQ>120)
Mensa = 2 in 100 (IQ>120)
MG = moderately gifted (130<IQ<138)
HG = highly gifted (138<IQ<145)

Those IQ are measured on the WISC IV scale, which has a full score of 160. If you use SB-5, they are about 5 points lower with max also at 160. BTW, those are not what MOE use. They have their own unknown measurement, so if your child presents 159, they will still look at behaviour, social, principal's recommendations etc etc. In some countries I know, once you reach a certain IQ, you qualify for intervention and assistance. So, like what we discussed, who gets what benefits is not subject to the child's ability on universal scale, but an unknown scale used by GEB.

Ok, that said, acceleration is another thing in most countries. For acceleration, a lot of other factors are taken into consideration before any kind (especially radical acceleration) are allowed. In Singapore, a max of 4 years are allowed, that is if you satisfy this unknown measurement of EG. Hope this explains.

LKY's grandson is 140 and asperger's, making him 2E, and also highly gifted, he went to Singapore American School.

IMO? GEP's syllabus does not even meet the needs of MG (maybe) and HG, much less the EG and PG, but that's not the point. I keep forgetting. :stupid:
