😆 So enlightening! We are loaning the Pandas for 10 years leh - not one, but two! And one of them is also called 'Jia Jia' See, if we are not the richest, how can we afford to keep such expensive and exclusive pets? :rotflmao:

            KSP:

actually it says \"Singapore is now the richest country in the world \"

that does not mean the ppl are rich...

            Errr....per capita GDP leh.

Actually it's quite shocking to me, considering how many low wage earners there are. But then we have a really high concentration of millionaires too....

.... and then there will be a report that the per capita income is rising, and that inflation is mitigated by the increased income level.....conclusion :life is good here...

It just means the average income and the median income are far far apart..

the same news is on ST print copy front page next to panda picture

do you feel you are richer than before ?

Misleading thread title. Just because Singapore is deemed the richest country by a certain yardstick of measurement, this doesn't even begin to imply we lowly folks here are loaded. You should consider rephrasing things to reflect the actual context of this wealth concept.

If anything, it only makes us ordinary peasants feel more disillusioned about our future. Everything rising, except our wages.

                AS THE SAYING GOES:

THERE ARE GOOD LIARS! THERE ARE BAD LIARS! AND THERE ARE STATISTICS!!

Just like dat above statement, d Wealth Report 2010 (why release only now arh when other lists by IMF, World Bank, CIA etc..for 2011 r oredi out) by Knight Frank (property) n Citibank (Wealth management) will be consigned to my rubbish bin.
It means diddly-squat to 85% of Sgreans.

Actually, I think there needs to be balanced response to this. Obviously, a per capita GDP figure is really such a rough tool, it only tells on part of the figure. It does not, for instance, describe income distribution, which is a real issue in Singapore. All the same, its better to be at $US 50,000 than say $US 10,000, at least we have the means and resources to tackle problems. So neither a jingoistic ‘we are the best’, or a howling derision ‘what a fake stat’ response is entirely appropriate. I’ll write a little bit more about this when I have time later.
