The school badge is sewn onto the uniform (i.e. comes with the uniform). The name tags are given out the first week of school (at least that's what happened when my daughter was in P1). You can iron it on but you will still have to sew to make sure it stays on longer.

The school has socks with the school logo
But I let my girl wear plain socks on some days.
As for shoes,can let any white shoes.

Hi, can any parents share their experience about what to expect on orientation day? It’s my 1st time doing the P1 thing so I’m clueless. The acceptance letter only states when & what time to report but other than that, no other information is given.

My daughter is in P2 now so I assume it is still the same. Basically the girls were taken off to their classroom with their teacher while the parents remained in the hall for a talk from the principal, some of the teachers, PSG etc. It covered the school history & values, schedule for their 1st few days, the P1 curriculum & activities of the PSG. The girls just got to know one another and did some colouring of a picture related to CHIJ values if I remember correctly.

After that we were able to go and buy uniform, books etc. You can pre-order the books so that you just go in & collect on orientation day or you can pay a bit extra to have them delivered which might be worth it if you don't have a car.

For my daughter's year they were all asked to come in before that for an \"assessment\" which was basically just a bit of reading and talking to the teacher. They also asked the parents to complete a form about their pre-school education plus mother tongue exposure at home.

There was a chance to buy uniform that day as well so I would recommend doing it then as there were no queues.

Thanks for the insight. Sorry for the ignorance. What is PSG? Also, you mentioned that for your dd’s year, you went earlier to pre-order the books. Did the school write to you to ask you to go before the orientation day?

PSG = Parents Support Group i.e. volunteers. They will actively recruit at orientation but my experience so far has been that they rely mainly on the SAHMs. I have never been asked to do anything despite offering and have only helped out at 1 event where they asked for volunteers from all parents.

Books - you can pre-order online.

:oops: Oops! Sorry! My silly! Thanks for clarifying. It makes more sense PSG is Parent Support Group than Primary School Girls!!! It was a wild guess! There's much to learn. I feel overwhelmed to think about the many things to settle. School bags, shoes, books, whether she'll settle in well, transport, etc... I guess I'm kancheong becoz she's my only girl and 1st born!
