Opinions of the Primary School Registration System
-
Got inspiration from another thread…
I suggest… those staying within 1km and have 3 or more kids get priority admission into the school of choice. -

But that may not help depending on the age gap between your children. For many families the 1st child will register for P1 before no. 3 is born.Got inspiration from another thread..

And for my boys there isn't a school that I would want them to go to that is within 1 km! -
Maybe MOE can consider doing centralised registration for each zone instead?
Eg in Tampines all parents go to Tampines primary school to register and indicate their choice. All schools to rotate their admin clerk on the days of registration days.
In this way, parents will be able to make informed choice should any school need to ballot and change choice last minute. If they need to withdraw and register at another school in the same area, it also saves the hassle of running around.
Just my 2 cents worth. -
In my opinion, live update creates more problems.
It affects majority of parents behavior instead of current few.
Imagine parents hogging the system, pestering admin to ensure their entry is the final one, parents fighting over right of entry, last minute cherry picking ec (you will see all sort of lousy and bad behavior).
Although current system have its inefficiencies, but the registration process have P2CS. Nevertheless, if the school already registered more applicants than vacancies, then they should informed parents who have registered and have no chance and stop taking in those who have no chance.
I believe most school are doing so but it should be enforce nation wide. -
How about to keep half a day for those whose once "qualify" to apply for the particular phase but due to the last mins’ registration by others and resulted no longer stand a chance even for balloting?
For example:-
After 4.30pm cut off time of the last day of the registration, school to inform those parents that are no longer stand a chance.
On the next day morning, patents to withdraw and registrar to another school.
Or to shorten the registration by half a day. After the morning session, school to inform those parents that are no longer stand a chance. Parents to withdraw and registrar to another school in the afternoon.
At least no one would waste their chance in any particular phase… -

Quite a good idea! I guess the parents who were affected by these last minute registration should write in to MOE about this. Their stand of appeal is probably stronger than anyone. How about to keep half a day for those whose once \"qualify\" to apply for the particular phase but due to the last mins' registration by others and resulted no longer stand a chance even for balloting?

What if school B becomes oversubscribed?
P2c is the solution for yr suggestion.
Parent have to be prepared to undertake their decision.
Example Rulang/NH, the odd is not favorable but if they still feel the school is right for your child then be it.

What happened if they go to another school and cause the sch to go into ballot or oust someone out?How about to keep half a day for those whose once \"qualify\" to apply for the particular phase but due to the last mins' registration by others and resulted no longer stand a chance even for balloting?

Eg. SC >2km go to another sch that had zero vacancy on the last day resulting in balloting for SC >2km or boot out the PR.
There is no end to this. -

That's true also... Guess we really have to place it carefully. What happened if they go to another school and cause the sch to go into ballot or oust someone out?

That's why I suggested a centralised registration centre for each zone. Eg if there 5 schools in Tampines, they rotate to be the centre of registration centre. So there's a centralised information for that zone/area for parents to make informed choice.

Eg : a SC wanting to register at Gongshan realised the odds are against her. At the point of registration can change her mind to register at 1) Yumin pri 2) Tampines pri or Tampines north pri.
