MOE Relooking P1 registration - Too much priority to alumni

Imagine this.. those who went for NDP before argue that they should be entitled to priority to the NDP ticket for the next year, and the next year, and so on.. because they are part of the audience at the previous year's NDP, and they were part of show (the human wave etc..).. and so they contributed..


And the main argument is that the show would not have been successful if not for the audience.. makes sense? You judge yourself.

Before we talked about what priority should there be or whether there need to be one..

We should consider scrapping alumni priority first.

This example cannot be applied to alumni la...an alumni is not a spectator of a show.

When my daughter gets married and has a girl, what can she do in order to register her daughter in alma mater?

1) must she buy within 1km of her former school to register her daughter there?
2) what if I look after my grandaughter most of the time but stay more than 2km away?
Is my granddaughter still entitled to register in her mother’s former school?
3) what criteria must be met in order for future generations to attend their parents’ former schools?

Some schools do not accept PVs prior P1 registration, like my daughter’s school. I try to help out whenever possible now. I attended the school. Now I am proud to see my gal wearing that school pinafore.

The bigger question is, WHY does your grandchild deserve that seat in the primary school more than others? Just because you and your daughter benefited from it before? What gives you the right to hog that seat and not another child who stays just next to that school?

You feel proud of your gal wearing the school uniform. Have you ever considered about the poor parent who stays next to the school but struggles to send their kid to a school far far away every morning? And maybe they do not own a car like you or other rich parents.

People only considered how they can get that coveted place in that school.

But do not consider what that is in the greater interest for community.

Everyone, phase 2a and subsequent phases need to apply for enrollment. If demand exceed supply, snatch har? please let me know which school end up with such cases, I call 晚报！ you shd know better right, since you have been updating the statuses of registration for so many schools - when demand of places exceed supply, balloting will result. Who snatch?

Not all of us want a scrap of the alumni priority scheme. It can stay but I maintain my view - alumni priority should be given to active alumni and the distance criteria shd stay. Ie active alumni has priority over dormant alumni, active alumni living within 1km have priority over another active alumni staying within 1km - 2km.


If staying nearby does not give one the right to enroll into nearby school, why should being a dormant alumni and staying far away (actually no need very far, 5km away also can) be given absolute priority?

There is nothing wrong with alumni priority. The problem is people trying to get into other people's popular alumni. I am sure there are plenty of schools within reasonable distance of such \"protesters\". But no, they don't want, just want to get into the hot school which \"happen\" to be right at their door

If there is nothing wrong with alumni priority, what is so wrong about trying to enroll into \"other people's popular alumni\" at the door step? Did they snatch? No, they go through the stipulated phases and end up having to ballot for that very vacancy they need for their children.

Everyone is entitled to their own view considering the circumstances they are under. Of course, if your alumni is not good, naturally you wOnt be pride to have your kids or grand kids to enrol in your alma mater. But the current policy is already at such that the school at the end no longer have any vacancy for non priority kids (ie. alumni, PV, GRL etc). A policy is normally designed to regulate issues & provide guidance in the registration so that all are in order, which maybe valid at the time. Does it still valid now since the situation has changed? We all know that many families staying v far travel 1 hr to school while families stay next door / 5 mins need to travel maybe 45 mins to the other part of SG for another school. It’s time to relook at the policy carefully to achieve desire balance.
