:rotflmao: I like your new avatar too. Should animate the one with a whistle and ask ChiefKiasu to appoint an arbitrator or referee with that avatar. Topic too hot liao, must have half-time with advertisements, cheerleading or other entertainment to dissipate the heat. :rahrah:

To all the active ksi on this thread :udawoman: :udaman:

Must summarise all the valid points argued by both sides and ask edgrace to bring it back to MOE for deliberation. šŸ™

Are we moving towards One People, One Nation, ONE Singapore..

        or

Multi racist, Multi religious Singapore? Celebrate & Promote the Differences?

Sure, they may not contradict.. but what is the direction we want?
Personally I prefer We Are Singapore. I am wary of slogans that sound like \"Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Fuehrer..\"

As to what direction, everyone has a chance to decide during GE every 5 years.

I do like your suggestion to move branded schs to Pulau Ubin, which is not too far fetched, but it will probably work as boarding schools at secondary or tertiary levels, not primary level. In M'sia there are whole towns of boarding schools. Bandar Penawar near Desaru comes to mind.

But blanket priority to the whole group including those w/o notable contributions isn't fair, I feel.
          I second this! šŸ˜„

Like that Non tax payers how? :rotflmao: ok ok, joking. I understand what you mean.

Are there non taxpayers around us?

Unless they grow own vege or rear poultry.....

But even then.. HDB, landed, water, electricity and such are all \"GST included\".. I guess..

            There no escape..

Ah, yes - that kind also count - indirect tax payers... Limlim, you \"very calculative\" hor... :rotflmao: :rotflmao: as an accountant, I don't even realize that (pay gst also tax payers).

By giving priority to alumni whose reason is \"strong belief/tradition\" etc.. aren't you hindering integration?

Group of the same type stick together. (pardon the poor English). We are religious A, we are clan B, we are this and that more than we are Singapore.

Why don't we promote integration and let different groups understand the culture of each other better.

Whatever it is, to want one's kid to follow a certain tradition is one's personal choice.

To have a policy that promotes integration and minimize the culture and religious differentiation is the govt's job.
Selfish own interest at the expense of others which I don't buy
Applies to the alumni at the expense of those who stay near the school.

The same argument applies.. if the school aren't popular, would alumni be so keen to hog that place for their offspring?

Let's be honest and face it.. the desire is for the popularity. Not bcoz it is alma mater. There is plenty who gave up alma mater priority, so this, is fact, that alma mater is not something desirable by all or majority.

For the complain against others fighting for places in one's alma mater instead of going to their own..

By the same argument, Why don't parents focus on school in their backyard instead of fighting with others for the school in other people's neighborhood?

Next, there is ALWAYS a NEAREST SCHOOL for EVERYONE. but NOT EVERYONE have an existing Alma mater. So it is NOT fair to have alumni priority because not everyone has it.

There are also those who do not wish to go thru balloting at the later phases. Thus they will register under phase 2a be it a popular school or not.

Some have argued for the review of priorities given to P2A not for the pure intention of getting their children into those popular schools.

They felt the P1 registration policy, which we understand is set many years ago, that gives absolute priorities to children of alumni regardless of their contribution and their home school distance, warrants a review, regardless of the schools it is affecting.
