I think if u use academic to get in sec sch, u shd compare academic among all the applicants who applied thru academic n shd not compare with applicants who use sport/music/art. Don't forgrt that they have to spend fair enough times to be one of the top n will b spending a lot of time on this in sec. U mean Gep n academic r not the same?
There are main streamers who have received CO but have scored less than the cut off point too.
PSLE gives equal weight age to all subjects while DSA is domain specific. So a low A in one subject is enough to pull the T-score down. While the child's speciality maybe in one domain- among the top in maths/ science/ language. DSA also takes in other factors like leadeship, CCA role etc. After all these are important traits too along side academics. The school has the autonomy to decide its criteria. And I think most schools are doing a good job of choosing the niche. If all Sec1 selection is done based on pure PSLE score leads to same kind of students mostly the ones good in all subjects and sidelines those that are exceptional in certain areas
DSA is thus necessary and a step in the right direction. While it does lead to another set of problems, which need to be tackled, scraping this in the name of leveling the playing field is just not right.
Let me also add that I do not have any kids in Gep. And Dd is one of those kids who is very good in all subjects and has done very well in Psle. So this is not a case of my view based on my kid. -

This is ringing in my head... you see, maybe my era is ooolderrrr.... hehehehe -

If you say that, they might say the same thing about you too. Need to drink 'ching teng'? Of course, we can all think and reason, that why we are here in KS forum sharing our thoughts and information. Hope that you are not going to say to me that we are two parallel lines again. :siam:[/quote]Better than unparallel lines, they meet once and then diverge further and further apart... so parallel is good what... close but never meet. Just like KSP parents, never really meet..
Whatever they say to me, they will know I will tell them it is bullshit. I cannot accept this at all! IP is in every international school, are we saying they can only certain kind of student? This must be a joke. Sorry. Cannot accept this. Not you, but whatever the schools say. Here's another thing. You don't have to believe everything you are told, we can all think and reason.2ppaamm:

It will be good if can get feedback from IP teachers, then we will have a better picture.
, parallel lines are good, easier on the Math also. Today I got party... hehehe, so I'll be busy baking... yum!

IP schools where got prefer GEPpers to mainstreamers ? in every IP school, mainstreamers are still the majorityWhere is hokkiengirl (I think she taught IP school before) to chip in on why IP schools prefer GEPpers to mainstreamers? What are the attributes?
Calling Hokkiengirl..... -

I think in RI, the GEPpers number around 190 (7 classes x 30 less a few mainstreamers in these 7 classes), and out of a cohort size of 450, it forms 42%. In HCI, it numbers around 90, so out of cohort size of 450, it forms 20%. Not sure about RGS / NYGH numbers thoughThe vast majority of students in IP and IS schools are from the mainstream, so they are given equal opportunities to be in IP. Schools like RI/RGS probably only have 20% of GEPpers in their population. NYGH only 5%? DHS <5%?
If you think that DSA is an unfair basis for selection into IP because some (very few) GEPpers score below the COP, then maybe we should not allow some sports and aesthetics students to be allowed entry via DSA because some of them have T-scores far below the COP of the school. Some going in with as much as 40 points below the school's COP.
GEPpers are better able to adapt to an IP environment bec of the way they were taught in primary school. I won't bother to explain how but sufficeth to say that IP schools recognize this. -
Thanks for the numbers, VK2010!!
Perhaps when people talking about GEP having advantage over mainstreamers during DSA, they are really referring to the 4 schools mentioned above!!

You are an amazing source of information!! I only remember RI has about 6 or 7 classes, starting with 'I' or 'J' to 'M' if I recall correctly. The rest, I don't even follow or know, but your numbers look right and interesting. So, how can IP school prefer GEP when they have more mainstreamers most of the time? Imagine even in Raffles, we are talking about majority being mainstreamers, so the schools are all used to teaching students from mainstream, in fact, more used to compared to GEP.

Then, I am back to my point, it is a matter of policy, which again, does not make sense. Hahaha.... on and on and on. Endless... As long as we are just looking out for our own kids, and speaking up for them, it will be endless. I will always say make it fair for all in terms of entrance and scholarship. That's just so much easier to get buy in from everyone, but everyone is entitled to their views. BTW, my older kids were successful in DSA, but that does not make it fair, unless they also meet the COP.
