Yes, black shoes really a big benefit for mums like us. I think all schools should just use black shoes since white shoes will turn black eventually anyway, haha. Besides black shoes, I secretly wish that all schools will use collared polo shirt as uniform instead of cotton shirt. It is more comfortable in our hot weather plus it is iron-free, haha. I like TGPS pants as it does not require ironing. But the uniform still require some ironing. Being white, it is very easy to get dirty and my DS’ uniform is no longer just white. It has blue and red spots all over now :-(.

Hi parents of new P1 kids next year


i called TGPS yesterday and was actually told that they may switch the lesson hours back to 1.15pm dismissal and they are also looking into after school care facility.

Just couple of months back, we did receive letter from school for a survey of after school care proposal. In this way kids will stay in the school compound and be taken care of. Also no need to arrange for separate transportation for CCA or enrichment classes. The only thing is that they will only get to mix with kids from the same school and not from other schools. Good and bad about it. So I still vote to support the idea.

Actually some schools are wearing collared dri-fit T for all ocassions. It is neat-looking when wore in class n same time is a sports T. And Hong Wen primary has a special Chinese knot on the collared T which is their uniform. I was hoping to see such change as I hate ironing. But kinda disappointed when saw TGPS changed their PE shirts to the colourful ones ... Cos no way there will be changes for another 5 to 6 years.

I went without a maid middle of last year after my maid terminated the contract earlier. After much consideration, we decided not to get another helper. It was really hard to juggle between house work, taking care of the kids and working at the same time. I worked half day at home for the 2nd half year last year so that I could cook lunch and took care of my kids after their schools. This year I put them in student care so that I could go back to work in the office in the afternoon. Now finally started to get used of the routine except for the daily packed lunch as I have to wake up very early in the morning to prepare breakfast and lunch for them. It is very hard for me to stay awake in the evening to enjoy family time and couple time :-(. So I really hope that the school can revert back to the normal dismissal hours so that I don't have to do the packed lunch again next year and my boys have ample of time to have their lunch daily. If you gonna go without maid next year, do be prepared for a time when you need to adjust to the change in routine and workload. Having support from the family and spouse is very important to tide through the difficult time. But after more than 1 year without maid, I never regretted. Now my boys are more independent and spouse is more helpful. So I think it is a good move but a hard one. All the best to you.

I tried going without maid 2 years ago when my DD was only 4. It was very trying. I don’t like to have maid as my kids tend to rely on her a lot and end up not knowing how to tidy their own room and looking after each other. I recalled those few months when i went without maid, my sons could help to fetch my DD from the childcare centre. They were only 7 and 9 yrs old then, they could even help to put the laundry into the washer and cook rice before i returned from work. Now with maid, it is so difficult for me to ask them to help to care for the sister and do some basic tidying.

Usually for a Fulltime working mom, a maid is really a godsend (especially if you have a good & reliable one.) as she help to ease you off all the domestic affairs and focus on quality time with your children. Speaking from my own experieneced when my children were younger.

Now that they are older and more independent, i can do without one but somedays still wish i have that extra pair of hands to help me as housework is a never ending stories.

You have 2 older boys to help and it's good that they learn to look after the younger sister. They can even cook rice, i am truely impressed! :salute: Which school is your boys attending? Judging by your statement, they should be 9 and 11 now. So i can say you are a Guru in the parents forum too... looking for some old as old as me...i meant has a child as old as mine...:P

My boys are ‘out of no choice’ trained by the dad to cook rice as i always reach home @7pm. They are now 10 & 12 at AMK Pr School. I do agree with you that it is always good to have an extra hand to help but to think of the additional cost with the maid so expensive these days and some of the disadvantage and side effect, it really give me a second thought if i want another maid. My current maid is only willing to extend her contact for another 9 months provided i give her 2 weeks leave in March. It is like neither here nor there and i need to pay for her new insurance, airticket + renew passport and WP just to extend her for another 9 months.

I completely understand what you mean. Kids grow up with maid can become too relying on them. I also don’t fancy the idea that my boys get too attached with the helper knowing the helper will leave very soon. After more than a year, my boys still ask me about their kakak from time to time. It is good that you have the option to stop having a maid. Hope things will go well with you. With support from your family, I am sure you can make it.
