Thanks.[/quote]Actually both sounds incorrect since \"has been watching\" is a present perfect continous tense. The Present Perfect Continous Tense is used for
        1. An action that has just stopped or recently stopped
        2. An action continuing up to now

        (source:http://www.englishclub.com/grammar/verb-tenses_present-perfect-continuous.htm)

The correct way should be \"My brother watches television every day.

Technically, both sentences are correct but the meaning for each is different.

In (1) : He missed the bus because he was late.
The sentence is saying he was late to reach the bus stop & hence missed the bus.

In (2) : He was late because he missed the bus.
He was late for appointment/school etc because he missed the bus.

So, in school context, the teacher would interpret (2) to be the answer.

              Why answer 2 is incorrect?

              Thanks.

Sentence (1) holds the meaning, \"my brother has been watching television every day (for the past month, etc).

Sentence (2) that begins with \"every day\" would assume a habitual activity and hence you would use the simple present tense. \"Every day, my brother watches television.\"

So sentence (1) is grammatically correct, and sentence (2) is wrong. šŸ˜„

                    Hi Shan,

The reason why is it \"it\" is because of the collective nouns, we look at a pair to determine whether it is singular or plural instead of spectacles
