There is really different values at work. Personally, I really don't mind if my child's teacher were to do that to him at the last minute because his hair was too long. I would have said \"obi quait\" to him. However, maybe it would have affected his confidence when he stepped into the exam hall. Maybe in the end he didn't do as good as he thought he would and that's where the finger starts to point?

Come to think of it, I'd probably be mad too, but not due to the $60 haircut. But then again, this is talking on hindsight, so , a good reminder for my kids and myself to ensure school rules are respected and followed, whenever it is. 🤷

If the boy can quote his live example during the CL PSLE oral, he would have scored high marks  My son's oral was on 1st day...also on 校规...too happy to quote the ones he dislike, and the examiners were holding back their laughter.

My Ds said if the answers could make the invigilators laugh, then can score high marks 😆

Is it true. Not sure who told him that in school :?

It means he made an impact on the invigilators. So long as the invigilators were laughing WITH him and not laughing AT him. 🙂

the boy will learn to be a bigger brat; and after grown up, become a liu mung

Most people seem to be supporting the parent. As parents, we can't protect our kids forever. One day, they'll grow up to face the law, not school rules and expect mummy to be behind them no matter what they chose to do. They'll grow up to lose their virginity as well. Is mummy going to be around to wear a protective gear for him to stop him getting someone's daughter into trouble? They have to learn how to protect themselves by being streetwise, the sooner the better. How long can we parents wrap the cotton around?

I'll recommend this alternate view which a friend sent over, which I agree with

What school rules did he break?

              the rule on hair length

From picture, I see nothing wrong with fringe n side...so maybe the back?

Maybe moe do what the army is doing. All boys should have one type of hairstyle - botak - to avoid confusion.

actually the parents ought to have ensured that \"all rules complied\" before any all important exams, be it personal grooming or any essential accessories for the exams

The sad thing is that what might evolve from this incident is that educators will be "too tired" or "too scared to care". Why go through the trouble to worry so much for other people’s kids? Damned if u do and damned if u don’t.

I have to DISAGREE with everyone who thinks the teacher is harsh

If the school / teachers can't enforce school rules, it is always the fault of the parents and the child. Period.

If the school / teachers have to resort to threat to get students to comply with school ruless, the student deserves it

If the boy does not learn discipline in school, then when / where ?

I strongly support you! The boy is setting a bad example to other kid's. he had broke a school rule. School rules is there to follow & parents are suppose to work with the school while it is trying to educate or discipline the kids. The boy's parents should feel shameful of themselves & not just blame the teacher. It is not easy to handle a class of 40 kids.

I feel the same way you all do about the mum and the boy, just unreasonable brats. But ultimately, the teacher's approach was confrontational and provocative. There is a time and place for everything. A public haircut after the fact, sanctioned by the school principal perhaps. But there was a key exam that morning.

Yes, the teachers are under stress, no question. Such students and parents don't make life easier. The way to deal with them is to turn the screws in a cool and calculating manner, make life hell for them in an official way. Not lash out and them have to grovel an apology later. I feel bad for the principal and other teachers actually, their authority has just been undermined by the actions of this one teacher.

Fringe looks ok on the pictures except his hair looks untidy before but got even worst after the untimely and unprofessional hair cut.
                      🤷

I remember school letter issued 1 week before the PSLE oral…nails must be cut and look presentable. It’s a national exam afterall, so students shouldn’t look unkempt when facing examiners from other schools. A disgrace to the school. Even got my son to take a shower to smell nice and brush his teeth again before leaving the house.
