hmm, what is Anzca? my kid is currently with myc hougang but now prefer teacher to come to our place for greater attention

ABRSM

In layman's term, my personal understanding:-
ABRSM is the conventional classical music type. Students must play exactly based on the scores.
ANZCA encourages improvisation (not playing exactly based on scores) for example....students are exposed to a variety of music.
for ANZCA, will it be reconginse if want to teach piano as a living infuture?
Thanks -

Thanks
Frankly speaking I don't know. Recognise by who? The society? I only know if my kid can learn and enjoy playing, that's enough for me. There will always be a market for ANZCA students......for parents like me lol. If your kid can play well, with creativity.... Do you think he or she will have a better chance at any audition? -

Thanks
If want to equip a student for a career in teaching music, it is advisable to choose an area of focus supported by some minor studies. In Singapore, the main market for piano learning is classical piano. The most popular classical exam board here is ABRSM, followed by Trinity and LCM respectively. So for practical reasons, being able to prepare students for these exams or following their syllabuses will be a big advantage economically. Many pianists who majored in pop or jazz had to offer concurrent classical lessons too to supplement their incomes. Musicians have to be versatile and adapt to the markets to survive.
Anyway, I recommend at least a full time degree course with pedagogical components in the study. If full time study is not feasible, at least study for a private teaching diploma offered by ABRSM, Trinity, or LCM up to the first level. You may wish to supplement the qualifications with further certifications in related studies e.g. LCM Jazz Piano, ABRSM Practical Musicianship, Trinity Composition Diplomas, Accompaniment/Duet Certificates, second instrument study e.g. violin.
And by the way, ABRSM does assess ability to improvise and be creative. There is this certification called Practical Musicianship available from grade 1-8. Grade 5 Practical Musicianship is accepted as substitute for grade 5 theory for the purpose of taking grade 6-8 ABRSM Practical. -

My dd's piano teacher is staying in woodlands. She is a yamaha teacher and dd has been with her for 6-7 years. But she does not travel to students' homes so you need to travel to her place at Woodlands Ave 6. She is patient and good and her students will come one by one to her place on weedays. She can teach up to diploma level. Dd is in grade 8. If you are keen, I pm her contact to you.
