If I’m the parent, I’ll probably tell my kid off for not handing me the note. I didn’t know dyslexic children are prone to forgetfulness…and when is this even an excuse?

I do hope that the teacher won’t lose faith in the public teaching profession (though if I were her, I probably will want to quit the public sector).

One thing good that comes out of this. After this year, parents will be very aware about hair length prior to the big P exams.

personally, if my son break any rules, i rather he do it when he is schooling. at least he will learnt it the hard way as compared to if he breaks the rules when he enters society, there might not be second chance.

            Yes agree!

              mummy so kiasu:
              verykiasu2010:

I have to DISAGREE with everyone who thinks the teacher is harsh

If the school / teachers can't enforce school rules, it is always the fault of the parents and the child. Period.

If the school / teachers have to resort to threat to get students to comply with school ruless, the student deserves it

If the boy does not learn discipline in school, then when / where ?

I strongly support you! The boy is setting a bad example to other kid's. he had broke a school rule. School rules is there to follow & parents are suppose to work with the school while it is trying to educate or discipline the kids. The boy's parents should feel shameful of themselves & not just blame the teacher. It is not easy to handle a class of 40 kids.

Yes, indeed. Maybe (just maybe) the teacher shd not cut the boy's hair, but definitely he deserved it. Maybe the parent did not see the reminder letter, but that is no excuse. Dont tell me the parents cannot/doesn't see the kid's hair longer enough to cut again?

Also don't tell me just cut a few days ago.... Even if it was just a few days ago, the parents also deserve :spank: , the boy not primary one first day leh, still dunno what is appropriate for hair length???

At least the interviewed Principals gave a more diplomatic response in today's report...
For example, Ang Mo Kio Secondary sends text messages to parents reminding them their child should be \"properly groomed\" - which includes making sure that hair is neatly cut. \"The responsibility then falls on the parents,\" said principal Abdul Mannan....
Cannot say the same for the mum...
Madam Ong yesterday said the school's warning still did not give the teacher the right for such drastic action. \"My main concern is not the money; it never has been. The key problem is the teacher overstepping my authority.\"....

Authority comes with responsibility. It is the parents' responsibility to ensure their young children are dressed appropriately for school. Hair included. No?

I really shudder to think what kind of 小太保 we are raising up... It was reported that he did not want to step out of the house for 2 days. Was it really so bad?

😆 My kids no problem one, I trained them since young - I used to cut their hair.

Me too! I cut my boy's hair - save $$ but seriously, I would give him a ear full if he is so gu niang! Common la, even the after hair cut picture is not that bad. What is the big deal.... Such that two days 不能见人? more like 自知理亏 to me.

I think teacher should not be bothered with that student. I thought over zealous teachers only happened in media corp dramas nowsaday?

If that boy is ‘tramatised’ having his hair cut against his will (I’m assuming he disagreed with the hair cut) before psle oral, he won’t perform well anyway. Who will get blamed? That teacher naturally.

But if teacher left that boy alone, his parents are unlikely to blame teacher for NOT cutting his hair, right? Let the boy face the ‘consequences’, if there’s any.

Actually, how much his hair style cost is totally irrelevant here. His parents seem to be missing the point

If I am the teacher, I would be very upset. Especially if I have the best intention.

Whatever the prob - dyslexic, forgetfulness, whatever, hair length is not something that needs reminder. One would be reminded each time one sees the kid. No?

Apoalogies, I am very particular about how young children shd dress and behave for school. I am not saying the teacher is right/wrong. But to kick such a fuss simply because the child's hair was deemed too long is not acceptable to me.
