      Jennifer,

I tot ur the in-house expert for tuition related matters. Why u ask us?

Due to logistics issues, she is looking for a home tutor only to come to her place.

How is your boy doing in XL?

      Hi Jennifer

I read in earlier post (back in 2010) that you were contemplating to send your elder boy to Perceptum. Did you finally signed him on? If yes, do you mind sharing your feedback to me? You can PM me. Thanks.

Wapiang ur dd's sch is the top of the top liao still got 50% failure. :faint: So PH is preparing our kids for the top schools early? :rahrah:

Actually when one look beyond the marks, the msg being delivered is that the answers/essays are not good enough and can be improved further (this theory some saintly parent taught me one). But it's never easy to look beyond the grades in a generally goal-oriented society like ours.

It’s possible to have failures even in top schools. English is no longer a walk in the park from Sec 1. Understand there is a change of syllabus. Literature is tough.

For the recent PSLE CL oral, the conversation topic was different from the picture discussion which was 校规. Previously, the picture discussion and conversation is around the same ‘theme’…for eg if pic is on MRT, the conversation would be something related.

We signed up for one term in Perceptum. The class size was very large. My boy did not understand some of the problem sums solutions after each lesson. We stopped after term 1 ended.

We then signed up at Maths Hub @ Beauty World when it first opened the centre. The time slot had only my boy attending.

Did not continue this year as (1) I felt the centre was teaching in advance and (2) I thought it was not necessary to hv Maths outsourced since my boy has the HOD as his Maths teacher.

IMO grades are mainly determined by 2 factors - 1) understanding the concepts & 2) exam tactics.

I feel that the school is not giving enough help in exam tactics at the lower pri levels.

For those children who are not given extra help in this aspect, we will see not-so-fantastic grades.

I am glad I sent my elder boy for enrichment EL during his lower pri years.

I am regretful I did not follow the same for my younger boy. Hopefully this new EL centre he is attending now will prepare him well for next year PSLE.

                    Gosh, next year :scared:

Jennifer, from your experience, once they have started tuition in a particular subject, how do you wean them (and maybe yourself) off later? Do they continue to have tuition in the same subject when they are in secondary school?

For my elder boy, I asked him if he needed to continue the EL lessons. He said no, so we stopped. As for CL, he is still attending tuition.

As for my younger boy, I cant trust him yet 😉
