All About Full-Time Maids

Hi all

Currently i have a Phil maid with me for 1yr 8mths and for being keeping her so long is becos my daughter has get very close to her and she could manage and handle my DD well since she 8months old. Of cos there were many many things I can't stand her but have to close 1 eye..from putting nail varnish, wearing makeup and accessories when we go out basically the only word can console me from scolding her is becos she is still young only 26 n young girls like to doll up, right? Whenever each time we go over to my friend house for dinner, My friend always commented that your maid is like a princess no need to do anything just sit down there and watch movie and cross her leg. The main problem is I can't leave my son with her solely under her care. There was couple of times my son complained to me my maid bully him by hitting his head and no doubts must be my son being naughty when i not around but afterall my maid have no right to hit our children. The \"Angriest\" part is why she beat the child when we are not around, she is so scary n fake! There also couple of time I saw my son playing alone in our room when I leave him with our maid half a day for facial or marketing n I saw the smart alec maid was taking her nap at my dd's room while dd having her baby nap, how could she just leave my son alone like that, she shld accompany him till i m back home. Have shared this with my hubby n he was very mad with our maid cos we have been tolerating all this.

Hubby decision is to look for a new maid this weekend and send the maid to her origin agency when the new maid arrived. But at the other hand she has 4 months more to complete her contract with us n she is looking forward to visit her daughter so I am in dilema.
- should i give her 1 month time to look for new employer and after that send her back to phil for fulfilling her contract with us? (

-if sending her back to agency mean she will have to work here for another 2 years if the agent find a new employer for her so is it mean she have to wait another 2 years to see her daughter?

For the above reason alone, I will not tolerate this maid. I will send her back. (either to agent or origin country) Child abuse? God knows what she will do to ur son behind ur back? U have to consider will she hit ur child more if u give 1 month termination notice? Finding a replacement maid is not a fast process if u want fresh maid. (transfer of cos faster) Took me almost 2 months before my new maid came. By then ur current maid would have serve another 2 months and mayb u can send her back? Meanwhile, install camera is good option to safeguard ur family. Fr now till new maid, try not let her alone w ur son.

I have the same problem here ! My mum and maid can't get along . And I always the middle person . Sometimes maid also gives me black face . Selected one maid but really feel bad to send her bk ( she has finished and renew new terms with me) I don't feel secure to leave my 5 yrs old son with her . Wanted to go bk to work full time but still worry of house hold . Don't know will I get better maid or not

Just to share my story.....

My maid went home(Indonesia) to celebrate her Hari Raya Puasa on 12th August and back 25th August 2012.

On the morning when we wanted to bring her to airport and we found S$1k missing. So, we asked her did she take the money, her answer is no. Without any evidence we still drove her to airport. After she left Singapore, we are not very sure that she take the money. So, we cross our fingers and wait for her to come back.

Before the return day, she phoned and remind us to pick her up at the airport next afternoon. She was back to Singapore after her home leave.

Till today, we still can't figure out where is the money........ :scratchhead:

I do hope the money will somehow turn up at a spot that was not previously searched.

Sorry to say nothing much you can do. Some pp I know will test the maid (eg by putting marked notes and see if it disappears). But at the end of the day, no one really knows what happened.

If you want to trust her, consider to write off the loss and be more careful in future where money is placed (fyi, money can fly even from drawers/locked cabinets). I have heard of losses like 3K at one go and the maid requested to go out for something (family figured it was to pass the money to her friend; after the loss was discovered, they did search but the notes were no longer in the house).

If the trust is lost and you keep thinking about the money when you see her face, maybe it’s time to say goodbye.

My maid and our Hari Raya tale.... This is her second trip home in 2 years. I told reminded her not to overload the luggage. Max is 25kg - 10 for handcarry, 15 for check in. She told me it is 25 add-together - just nice. But that was a week before departure. Upon check in, luggage overweight by 10kg!! Refused to repack and take out those GOLD like shampoo, bath foam, conditioner, frying pan, etc. :stupid: Asked my MIL to help her pay first that $200 first.


Then arrived in Indonesia, but had to stay 2 nights in town to make that silly KTKLN card because the queue was so long! So, 3rd day, finally arrived home.

Called me 10mins after her scheduled departure time back to Singapore!! :scared: She missed the flight entirely! Traffic jam. Asked us to buy her a new ticket - cost $280.

And then, she told me, make the KTKLN card cost money. And then, the airport decided to increase the tax from 20k to 150k = $25. So end up no more taxi fare money we gave her and came back by MRT. Then, open the back, she brought back 2 huge bunch of GREEN bananas. :slapshead:

today my maid trying her luck by saying wat if she to get married, can take one mth leave??? i told her finish ur two yr contract la. she is only one mth with us. one bloody terror :s hmph!


i wanna kno… do maids allowed/entitled a home leave b4 her contract finishes? pls kindly enlighten me tis. tQ

shebeautiful: is this the same maid you mentioned previously? Thought she's a gone case? Well, I only have had maids for 2 yrs plus, but I let my maid go home for the Hari Raya. She is married, mid-30s, and has two teenage girls. As a parent myself, I feel that it is important for her to see her children; and as someone whom has worked overseas, I know first hand how it feels like missing home and family.


Her work is only so-so, attitude so so, but she is quite stable emotionally and she is honest. about a year or so after she joined us, I asked her if she wanted to go back for Raya, and I let her. And I intend to let her go home every year - although this is not in the contract; and she never did once bargain with me over home leave issue. Last year, she went home for 17 days. This year, she went back for 10 (minus 3 days @ KTKLN; plus 1 day extra at airport!!)

So, really, it depends on whether you think your maid is worth it, and whether you can spare the time off. I took leave to take care of my son - but I kinda enjoy spending time with my cheeky monster! In any event, since you are not liable for giving paid home leave, they could always pay for themselves, if push comes to shore and she MUST go home for some reason... but bringing this up after first month - what... she thinks she's in that great terms with you, is it? :scratchhead:

Oh,... and withheld her pay - one mth for the time they are away, and one month just in case they do not come back! Something a neighbor mentioned yesterday.

sigh… yes straffan. the same maid. i tolerated. anyways… i jus got to kno tt shes only 23 instead of 29yrs old!!! i wonder how can they lie abt their age n its stated in their passport! is it the works ther in indonesia? sigh

Shebeautiful: I hate to tell you this, but unfortunately that is what happens in the 3rd world countries. I was told that you need the village head to sign off some documents to (1) record a birth, or (2) to get a passport done. Sometimes, (1) is done together with (2) so anyhow can do. Some instances, however, they are a few years older - the village head consolidates the births and report them to the authorities every few years.
