With the EESIS paying up to $2400 or lower, does it mean we still have to top up $100 per month since RI's fees is $300?

Yes. $100 for school fees & $45 for supplementary fees. There's also the monthly photocopying fees (varies from month to month) paid to form teacher. Amount not fixed. Not sure if the same for all classes.

Can any one suggest how many uniforms to buy ? And does the text book really use in class ? My girl (NYGH) had bought some unnecessaly books listed in the booklist when she was sec 1.

My son bought 3 set of uniforms last year. It should be sufficient. Bear in mind the uniform is in white and the boy has to take care of the place he sits, etc. We have to buy a few more set of uniforms through out the year as we cannot get rid of the stains sometimes.

The books will depends on the teachers. Most of the teachers do not uses the books but my son uses it as reference. Most of the books we bought can be used for 2 years.

There's this white Polo shirt which they are allowed to wear only on Fridays. I bought 1 only. My son has been wearing every Friday for one year already. Still in good condition. The white shirt & shorts are not easy to maintain though. The school will be giving them a badge & a tie as part of the welcome package. The tie has to be worn every Monday. To make sure he does not forget (lazy way), he never ever removes his tie from his school bag! As for the badge, I have purchased another 2. After I've ironed his shirt, I'll pin the badge on, just in case he forgets.

As for socks with the school's logo, I've bought 8 pairs. Till today, he refuses to wear. So, check with your son before you buy. The socks' way too long, not very cool to be seen in.

              Fairy,

I’ve checked the school webi, any idea if the Tshirts/uniforms/books can all be bought at the school on 23Dec? Can be earlier? About the socks, I didn’t notice they’re long. So no need to buy school socks? Got school jacket anot? Or should I start getting him 1.

Yap. All can be purchased on 23Dec. Not sure about jacket. We did not get one. School socks - not compulsory.

My son has changed about 3 to 4 badges this year. The quality is quite poor. The safety pin always drop off. It is best to get one spare. For the tie, my son just put one in his locker.

I understand that RI has the IP and hence uses the GPA point system. Please tell me how it works and if CCA has anything to do with it [e.g. CCA points]...

                    Hi Vikaesh,

Subjects are awarded the following Grade Points base on your marks:
                    4.0 >80%
                    3.6 70% to 79%
                    3.2 65% to 69%
                    2.8 60% to 64%
                    2.4 55% to 59%
                    2.0 50% to 54%
                    1.6 45% to 49%
                    1.2 40% to 44%
                    0.8 < 40%

The GPA(Grade Point Average) will be the average of your best Core 4 subjects and any 2 best other subjects for Year 1 and 2. For Year 3 & 4, it will be the average of your best Core 5 subjects plus any best other 3 subjects.

I hope it helps. You will enjoy yourself in the school.

                      1) So CCA ACHIEVEMENTS / CCA POINTS do not help to increase my GPA points whatsoever?

                      2) I also understand that most secondary schools require their students to have laptops. Are pupils required to have laptops @ RI ? If yes, at what level [e.g. sec 1, sec2, sec3....etc.]

No. It will not affect your GPA.

Not necessary for year 1. But there are a lot of projects. You might need a good printer at home to print your projects. You might also need to invest in some Adobe software to help in your projects and computer studies.
