I would be very angry too if the teacher simply cut my child's hair without giving any pre-warning to the kids, and worst to do it just before the crucial PSLE oral exam! It was similar to the recent incident of Joseph Schooling who was told that his swimming cap is not approved before his major competition.

Personally, cutting someone's hair without consent is interfering into a personal boundary esp to a child. I'm not sure if the boy was really misbehave / naughty that the teacher needs to go to this extend.

On the other hand, i agree the mother may have overdone it to report police. But perhaps she was too angry at that point??

Well, i still think the teacher is the one who did not handle this matter in an appropriate manner..
warning letter issued but the boy \"forgot\" to show to his mother lar

rule book from the school make it clear no long hair, not the same as Joseph Schooling which was a different situation - coaches unaware of new requirement - coaches sleeping

If I am not wrong, in Joseph Schooling’s case, the ban on the brand of products he was using did not include the swimming caps and goggles in the list when team Singapore checked; so it is a different case versus the haircut.

In the former, they checked and the item was not listed as banned, in the latter, earlier communication has been established with regard to the boy’s haircut. So I wouldn’t view both in the same light.

Also, Joseph Schooling said something which strike me very strongly about his attitude. He said, "Champions have no excuses." I would love my children to have this mindset too, anytime.

Tripped in Oral, just work harder for the papers. All are not lost.

            I agree with you.

On hind sight, the whole incident was triggered by an innocent haircut which the mother didn't mind paying an arm or a leg for it. Unfortunately, the haircut turned out to be too outrageous and left a teacher gawking in mute horror, on top of her stress and over-anxiety for her students to do well on PSLE oral day. She threw discretion out of the window and freaked out, transformed into Edward Scissorhands and started snipping away at the hair, unknowingly that every snip she made soon had it's repercussions. A storm ensued and escalated into a hurricane with an irate mother protesting vehemently why a teacher dared to touch a hair of her son's, not to mention a whole mop, and sought redress from the authorities as if they have nothing better to do. The issue became full blown and things turned ugly for everyone. The rationale of everyone's action became the debate of the nation and the boy became famous overnight without having to win the Singapore Idol award, and whether this unexpected 'fame' will make or break him is anybody's guess.

Moral of the story: DON'T TOUCH A SINGLE HAIR OF MINE!
            Errrr.....Yes, not even pubic hair.

My boys often come home and tell me to "trim" their hair because the teacher warn them…The school disciplinary master also "threaten" them to cut their hair. So I guess, this boy maybe didn’t tell his mom.

I don’t think his mom is a KSP lah, otherwise, such thing won’t be happen.
