I had the same feeling after my 1st visit to Pro Teach on a Saturday. At least you were brave to register immediately. I came home and thought about it before decide to put my boy there.

It is not that bad if air con is switched on. I have seen a lady cleaner cleaning in the morning when I dropped by to to replenish my son clothes.

        Hi fairy & queen,

My hse here student care is quite small. I can say there are 3 room. 1 room for tution, 1room for playing, another room is for doing homework. They only take in max up to 12kids coz of the space. How abt Pro teach ?

Yes distance is my factor and I need to fetch 2kids at 1 go, not easy. But money concern also impt to me.

I have ask around the Yishun. All those student care is quite a distance to my house. Accept this that near my hse, else is the Pro teach or PCF near the Peiying.

        So Queen,

May I know so far how is your son been doing wif Peiying since now he is in Pri 2?
I heard fm my student care incharge saying that not much home work for Pri 1 in Peiying,is tat so ?

Can you tell me more abt Peiying Sch?

          Hi qq_guy,

Your student care doesn't appear to be very big either from the description. PT has a few classrooms (roughly 4 cos' I didn't count), 1 pantry area & 2 toilets. The centre can definitely accommodate more than 12 students as the classrooms (lined with rows of tables) are quite reasonably sized.

If cost is a key consideration, suggest you visit PT together with your spouse & child. Ask your kid whether he/she likes the place. Surprisingly, my girl told me she's ok with PT after the visit.

          Hi Queen,

PT is overall still acceptable. Hopefully, their tuition programme & teachers are good.

Yes, please tell us more about Peiying 🙂

I agreed with FairyPenguin, give PT a visit and also do a trial run on how long it takes you to fetch both kids and back home. That will involves walking from Khatib station to PT then hop on onto bus 811 (or MRT again) to Yishun station.

Yes, not much homework for P1 and 2 - even lesser for this year. In fact during Parents Teacher Meet session, the form teacher said they have to follow guidelines/quota on setting of homework so not to overload the kids with it.

PY uses Holistic Assessment for P1, meaning mini test which each contributes 5 – 15% of their overall assessment. Less stressful. I didn't choose PY for academic reason, I just wanted a school nearby where my hubby can walk my boy to school every am. I recalled one colleague asked me during registration period “what are the CCA offered by the school” and I went “hhmmm…. is that important? :yikes: ”

Let me give you brief idea of what to expect for P1 parents. Parents are allowed in school canteen during recess for 1st 3 days and each P1 kid will get a buddy to bring them around and also help buy food. During dismissal all the kids will come out from the side door and teacher will release them class by class…. it was chaotic with anxious parents/helpers and kids busy chatting and walking. I was there on his 1st day just to see how PT teacher fetches them and then walk behind the group back to the centre.

I forgot how I got my school book list but you can starts buying from school book store from school end Nov – mid Dec and uniform too. I usually orders the books online and collect it from school to save time. It can be delivered to home too for a fee.

Don't worry too much, it is their 1st step to the big world – let them enjoy it. I always tell my pre-schooler son, PY is Kor Kor’s big boy school.

If you want to be more involved, may be can consider joining the PY Parents Support Group which you can register during Orientation.

              Hi queen & fairy,

After several thought, think I will chose my student care that near my hse, though is cost more but as in long run, distance to me also impt. As if my hb cant do the fetching as s/time he work late, I will d one to fetch both kids. I will just let my gal try out first, if not suitable then will decide at later part again.

Today I have received the letter from school already, but not as excited as I think. As the school is not my first choice. But no choice I have to accept it.

Anyway I am looking forward for the Nov orientation.

              Queen,

Thanks for the info. Do share with us if there is any others to update regards to Peiying. To me i find academic is impt to me.

                Hi Queen,

Personally, I don't fancy the school giving too little/no homework to P1/P2 children. Of course I'm not advocating the school loading the young ones but a balance must be struck. My only concern is if the kids are under-prepared in the lower levels, they may have a lot of syllabus to catch up come PSLE! :nailbite: Think I'll have to assess, if need be got to let my girl attend some useful enrichment lessons if the school is too 'relaxed'. No choice cos' mummy is worried. :slapshead:

Thanks v much for sharing with us on PY. Though my objective of picking PY is the same as yours ie proximity, I'm beginning to wonder if I've made the right choice. :faint:

                Hi qq,

Let's countdown to 16 Nov. We can share experiences after the orientation. Meanwhile, let's keep our spirits up :nunchuk:

It's a tiring week, can't wait for Fri to come. :snooze:

                  Hi Queen,

Guess what? After I emailed Pro-Teach some of my observations after visiting the centre, they called & informed they would be painting the walls before year end (waiting for a long weekend to minimise disruption). In fact, they planned to do the re-painting but with the feedback, they would expedite. Isn't this good news for our children & other users of PT? :rahrah: Glad that PT is receptive to feedback :imcool:

                    Hi queen,

Sorry just to find out from you again about the homework supervison.
I just check with my student care today, they told me if kids are unsure of the homework, they have to ask. Once the homework is completed, kids will just show to the teacher. They will just make sure they finish, they wont check if they done correctly a not. Is that so ? Coz they are too many students in the class already, they cant 1 by 1 go check ard.

Just to check if Peiying got any weekly spelling ? As my student care mentioned if parents want them to guide kids on spelling,we parents have to tell them.

                      Hi queen,

Does PT adopt the same treatment as qq's student care ie just make sure the kids do the homework but won't check if correct? Like this not very acceptable leh :slapshead:

                        Hi qq_guy / Fairy Penguin

I think that is the approach adopts by most student care. Let me ask my son tonight if the teacher check his work.

Yes, PY gives weekly English spelling and fortnightly for Chinese. Pro Teach practices spelling with them but I notice they uses repetitive copy writing, not by phonics. Seen his spelling exercise book.
