          journey:
          Hi all,

I'm new here. I am a former MBS student, and would like to join the alumni. Would appreciate if anyone can advise the procedure and fee to join. Thank you.
          Hi,

Pls go to the enclosed link.

          http://www.mbsalumni.org/e_index.htm

          □ 申 请 为 永 久 会 员 ($200/=)
          □ 缴 付 普 通 会 员 (年 费 $24/=)

I recalled when I first joined, I joined as a ordinary member for a year and subsequently converted to life membership. You might want to call them to check out....

I recalled paying around $100? for life member 8 years back (when my dc1 is 2 years old). It does appear that the price has increased probably due to inflation. So good to join earlier than later.

Note that if you are using it for P1 registration, non-alumni falls under phase 2A2 while alumni falls under 2A1. With no change in regulations, 2A2 is very safe. Some of my ex-mates didn't join alumni and their kids are also in MBS.

There are some MBS alumni group in FB now. But if you are keen, I would still encourage you to join the alumni as they will send newsletter and set up networking activities. Also as alumni, you get to contribute to needy student donation. I think they solicit for donation once a year but of course it is not compulsory.

Why don't you check with school bus uncle directly? My kids used to take those mini van and if there are quite a no. of them, uncle do provide ferrying service after cca/ supplementary. Just that there is an additonal charge on top of bus fee.

kamsy, I think for those in the afternoon session who is going for cca or remedial classes, the school bus don't send cos the numbers are likely to beg small unlike the morning session. I used to send DS1 myself but this yr for DS2 who is in p1, I didn't let him join CCA as sending is an issue.

Yah that is true as CCA is usually in the morning. My dd is also P1 and she attends the band. We make arrangement for my mum/ maid to bring her there.

Yes they learn music notes and master their instrument. Not sure if it is the most popular but I think it is a popular CCA as MBS band is indeed impressive and one of the top among primary schools. Besides wushu, they have chinese orchestra, dance, choir, badminton, basketball, robotics, etc... actually I think MBS has quite a lot of CCA for kids to choose from. I saw that in my niece's school, CCA choice was limited so she does not have any. It's just that from my personal perspective, CCA is a potential DSA area (direct admission to Secondary school) before PSLE Results are out. So I prefer kids to stick to a good CCA throughout. Pros and cons.

DSA interested topic...and hv make research on it now 😉 and realise hv to prepare way start fm P4/5....So yr P5 going P6 next yr start to go for DSA coming soon? I check up HCI, NUS high...interesting...;)

                      I actually have 3. P1, P4 and P5.

Ic. Care to share more on yr P1 this yr? Do they get to choose any CCA fm MBS cca lists? Or MBS hv set lower cca or upper cca for their students? My son will be very interested in robotic / sc club...:) P1 compulsory to take up CCA? Choose 1/2 or? And normally for P1 CCA start AM weekday or weekend? Once a week?

Sorry for so many questions, since u hv one P1 should be able to advise more... :rahrah:

Actually I think have to start earlier than P4. Some CCA don't accept newcomers at P4 unless you are really talented, etc... So probably got to start the child in lower primary. Even joining band for instance at P2 requires an audition. Also by P4, some could have gone for their 1st SYF. Yes, I think the submission for DSA is around June 2013... Still planning as has to depend on her results as well passion. Some sec schools have minimum overall marks for P5 and P6 mid year. Also child must have passion otherwise they will have to stick to the same CCA in sec school life.

My thoughts on CCA is really subjective. Some kids change CCA every year. The benefit is it allows them to experience different things to discover their interest. The downside however is that some kids drop a CCA as it is no longer interests them so it's alittle like 半途而废. From a DSA perspective, it might be good to strategise a CCA and stick to it throughout. Even if you do not have DSA in mind, this will also allow the child to grow with the CCA and build their competency and capabilities. Eg. if the child plays a sport and is selected to represent the school. It will build his self-esteem and self-worth.

When my ds is in P3, I let him join badminton and band. But from P4, he dropped badminton as the time clashed. Even if there is no clash, I personally would prefer him to keep to 1 CCA only as band is already quite time consuming.

It is not compulsory to take up CCA for lower primary. I think they have a list but sorry I cannot recall the exact details except wushu, chinese orchestral? and band. Maybe other P1 parents can help. My P1 attends the band and it's once a week and on weekday morning.

We didn't begin with a DSA in mind but thought of it as a backup plan. On hindsight, if we are indeed that kiasu, it is probably good to check out what the targetted secondary school wants and then you start to develop the child in that area. Eg. wushu and chinese orchestra are popular DSA CCA for schools like chung cheng main, anglican, catholic high, etc... This is from a kiasu perspective. But whatever it is, we need to make sure our kids have interests and passion in the particular area otherwise we are causing them more harm instead.

Also, for DSA I learnt that it's advisable to choose a sec school that is suitable for your child academically. Sorry I know it's abit early but thought of sharing some observations. Even if they can DSA to the top sec school in Singapore, if they are just average academically, I personally won't do it. They will not be able to keep up academically and CCA is time consuming.

Yes, I realised about the website in construction yesterday. Hoping to see more information in the new website.
