Many parents thought that Temasek primary is affilliated with Temasek Secondary. This is the first wrong.
Some even think that Temasek primary -> Temasek Secondary -> Temasek JC -> Temasek Holdings. The is second wrong.
What is more correct is: children who are studying in an affilliated primary school tend to be complacent. A score of 200 will brings them into Express stream, 150 into Normal Academice and 90 into Normal Technical. I normally discourage parent to send their children to affilliated school.
There is of course a risk to this: what if the child is not the \"study kind\" for whatever reason (not so bright, slow learner .... etc). For such cases affilliated school would be better choice. For example, affilliated secondary school accept their primary students at 200 while other school will have to come in at 220.
One advice for kiasu parents: if you want your children to score higher than 230, make sure they do well in Chinese. Our tutors at http://singapore.math-chinese-tutor.com know this too well. Many students are aware that Chinese is not a well-liked subject. But these students are not aware that because Chinese is not well-liked, it becomes an easy subject to score A. An \"A\" in Chinese can easily push the agreegate up by 20 points. -

Heard from a teacher fren that there’ll be no more affiliations in future so as to raise the standards of the sec schools. Is that true? Anyone else heard the same thing?

Firstly I believe Mathematics is the most important subject of all subjects. Your child's T-score ranking will suffer greatly if you get anything less than A in PSLE. Secondly, to my knowledge in many primary schools the ranking of position in class is also done according to mathematics. Thirdly, mathematics is a subject which will be compulsory through out your life as a student. I know of a student who obtained 4 As in PSLE with a T-score of 247 but another student with A*, A, A but B in mathematics only with a score of 234!! Please think about this too. -
i would say, so long if the pupil gets a \"B\" for any subjects would make the T-score looks very very ugly.........
i do agree with what bentan said abt chinese .........
becos the average/mean for chinese is the highest among the 4 subjects, so even if the pupil gets, let's say \"70 marks\" it still fall below the mean which will then tansformed into a much lower T-score when compared to the other 3 subjects.
so, don't \"hate\" chinese.....and start to \"love it\" and polish it up........
P/S btw, i m not a chinese tutor or anyway in related to bentan tuition agency or whatsoever......... -
After my 1st daughter’s psle this yr, I’m considering transferring my 2nd daughter to an affiliated primary school when she goes to P4 next year.
Will it be very hard to adjust for her?
I stay in NorthEast, any good suggestions (and better possibilities) primary school in our area to transfer to that is affiliated with a Sec School?
