This issue is not abt having certification to teach or not.

Black sheeps (in any industry) can be super educated but lacking in EQ and interpersonal skills. Sometimes even values & morals. A person can have all the qualification required yet it does not mean they're perfect. You just cannot possibly tell upon hiring them. There are no tell-tale signs. Just look at that MOE scholar owning, watching, filming porn of young kids below 7!

One colleague from my early days in the industry punished a boy to stand outside the class and I cautioned her that her student was the bo chap sort and having him outside the class may not be a wise idea cos cannot see what he was / could be up to. She was too angry to listen. Neither would she even consider to let him stand in my class. She wanted him to feel that he's going to sacrifice the fun the class was gg to hv next. To feel excluded.

After my class finished physical education period, I purposely walked by from her end of the corridor just to check in the boy (didn't feel good abt him being left out of sight) and lo and behold, true enough he was gone! I quickly told my colleague. I was afraid that the mischievous boy might jump over the corridor of the second floor and *gasp*! Both of us immediately looked down, over the railings of the corridor. He wasn't there! I told her to go find him while I help her watch over her class. It finally sunk in how serious it was as she became rather frantic.

      Guess where he was?

      With his mom.

She was early that day, so was waiting for class dismissal just downstairs.

      :yikes:

Yup.... she was in big trouble over that incident.
The child whom you are timing out or punishing should be placed in an area which is still within your line of sight. That is one of the basic guidelines when handling misbehaving children.

        Sorry, click "submit" by mistake.

The teacher was really quite poor thing. They practically left her and my crying nephew at a corner. She just sat and keep drying away the tears but other then that, she totally at a lost as no one will help her.

Once when I was peeping outside ( after 3 days, they told us not to hand around anymore coz it’s bad for the kids). I heard the auntie teacher scolding a chi,d fiercely "Pat you? You think we very free har, so many of you we got so many hands har". The little boy couldn’t sleep so was sobbing but she just walk away till she saw me. She the pretends to walk back to console the boy.

On the 5th day of school, the principal said his supervisor ( a burly guy whom I am sure is not educator) needs to talk to us about my nephew.

For some reasons not explained, they said my nephew bit a kindy girl. When we ask what provoke, all the teachers said they only saw my nephew bit the girl but not what happens before that. Ok, we apologize and felt really bad towards the girl.

Then the following week, same thin happens and also same girl. Still, the teachers claimed they dun know what transpired before that except they " know my nephew" bit her. How they know - they later admitted from deduction as he was next th her when the incident happens.

The so called supervisor went on condemning the incidents and said he need to expell my nephew upon 3rd offense. He even convinced my sis that he has behavioral problem and need to see psychologist. We were very furious at his harsh words against my 2 yr old nephew but actually was more worried about my nephew’s behavior and his threatened expulsion so left hurriedly.

We went to few other centers and explained my nephew’ s situation. The few centers all confidently told us it’s totally ok. We enrolled him into a centre immediately.

Throughout this 2 years, there wasn’t a single biting incidents. My nephew has never bitten since he has teeth so we got so worried that he has done that in the centre. His little brother who went to the infant section did bit another child in 2 occasions when he was teething, but he similarly was bitten back by few children few times. Both are happy in the centers - the older one napped on the 3rd day he was at the centre. The younger one has totally no problem adapting right from beginning.

The teachers are so patient and loving towards every child. We have peeped few times when we are there earlier and the teachers smiled at us when they spot us.

So, some centers definitely has these teachers form hell… And more importantly, the head of the centre plays an important role. If he himself is not educator, nothing much to expect from the people he hires.

And another joke, on the last day of the centre, the supervisor and principal actually told us once my nephew listened to instructions and can behave well, he is always welcome to the centre.

If the teacher had gone for certified training, she would know that such punishment is not allowed. Even if the teacher is very stressed, she has to give herself 5 min to cool down.

This will not become another teacher bashing thread. My kids enjoyed their 3 years in kindy...daughter even wanted to go back. She asked if principal can create a K3. :faint:
Do we need a cert in early childhood education to know that this is not acceptable? So if this was done to the child by one who is not trained it would have been acceptable?

Nothing to do with cert or training. It is the person and his/her choice of action.

This I definitely agrees with Funz. The teachers mentioned definitely are qualified as the centre follows the law. But, look at their attitude. It’s more of getting a pay at the end of the month and nothing at passion or interest.

              That's why lah.. :slapshead:

She was a much senior colleague. Can sense she pretty much disliked my help which she may have seen as an intervention or that I was trying to teach her. :dowan: My colleague was so angry that her eyes were like gonna pop out of the sockets! I didn't want the child to get hurt or worse, lost as he was a really really mischievous child... and I didn't wanna see a fellow colleague in hot soup. I had to help dismiss her class that day. Big hoohaa downstairs and later on in the office. There's a busy street across the building, so........... imagine if the boy's mom wasn't downstairs! :nailbite:

Mom said the boy was with her for 15min already. Which goes to say that my colleague had forgotten about him. :yikes: Putting children out of sight is one major no-no... but oh well... I was still a junior staff then. I just helped cover her class for the remaining last period.

Agree with Funz and as I have posted earlier, this incident has NOTHING to do with training OR any certification, no matter how sky high.

Definitely, my husband is shocked to hear the news too.

News put up which childcare branch is that?

                    Parents should withdraw their kids?

News only stated she was an ex PCF teacher. Did not say which branch, whether childcare or kindergarten.

It is the action of 1 teacher, that teacher has been removed from the school and the matter is being investigated, why should parents not involved withdraw their kids?

:skeptical: Ya, why must resort to that?

Only one teacher who did so and is no longer there.
So, assume the whole centre (staff) liddat.. no morals?
Sorry, this isnt a fair judgment... if one is judging that is. 🤷

It's like blaming a whole system when only one or few individuals CMI.[/quote]My point is if the rest of the staffs there did witness, and did nothing to stop the incidents and let it occur again, no need to take any blame?

The news stated: \"A kindergarten teacher\", so not sure is from childcare or kindergarten. \"The four incidents allegedly happened between July and August 2011.\" also stated in the news... so what actually happen, and anyone there knows :?
