DSA 2012

Worriedpapa:
Which school does your dd personally prefer? MGS or RGS?Congrats to all the happy papa, mamas, ds and DDs who had good news this week. For those who have been less fortunate, there is the PSLE! Ur DS and DDs are much more capable than we give them credit so m sure they will have their dreams fulfilled post psle.
Snail Mail from MGS finally arrived.... DD and I had given up that dsa as a lost cause. But surprisingly... She has a CO. :hi5:
However... Need your help to decipher MGS dsa offer. She had rejected the Sports School CO, received CO from RGS. The MGS offer is Dsa Sports O levels... Guess she did not make the cut for the IB as we ticked both dsa options. DD thinks that if her psle marks are good, she may still be able to get into MGS IB program through the psle posting. I thought they only had 2 IB classes next year and all of the slots would be filled through dsa? Does anyone know if MGS has set aside any IB slots for psle posting?
:?
Thanks
If MGS, give the school a call and check with them if your dd were to accept the MGS CO for O level, and her PSLE results are good enough for IP, will they consider putting her into IP track then? That way she's secured a place in MGS plus has the opportunity to go IP if her PSLE results are excellent. Even if MGS says no transfer to IP is allowed after PSLE results, your dd can always apply for the IP track at the end of Sec 2 while in MGS. Lots of opportunities to go into IP.
If your dd prefers RGS. Easy. But bear in mind that RGS is academically very rigorous. But your dd seems confident in her academic ability.
Another thing to consider - IB Diploma or A Level Cert? -
Is there any mainstreamer who is awaiting for the DSA result from RGS ?

FYI. My friend's DD, who is from mainstream, has received RGS CO as well as NYGH CO a few days back. She applied under math domain. -

Thx. My DS is p.6 now so I think this is why his teacher approached him and gave him suggestion. My dh discussed with his friends and colleagues who were not prone to ACSI as they commented the children were a bit snobbish.....and rich.... (sorry that i have no intention to offend some parents and children here).thus, I m still struggling which school I should choose.shaunshaun:
Dear parents, may I ask how u think of ACSI? This is the first and only time my child takes part in PSLE. a few days ago, my DS teacher suggested him trying to apply for ACSI or SJI. I really has no idea of these two school as I was not studying in Singapore in my secondary education. Thanks for any sharing.
Is your son P5 or P4? If he is P6, DSA application had closed a long ago. Maybe he can put his choice for S1 posting.
In term of ACSI and SJI, both are very good schools, with different religion and culture. you may find more at parent network thread on this forum. -

No. I don't think so. I still haven't received any news since now. But my DS hasn't been invited to interview and no noticification yet so far although I know he was being kicked out from successful application.shurley197323:
Anyone heard from RV?
I just received Rejection letter from RV by post today. Those had not received, might be CO...
Anyway, still got psle going on. Work hard!
I was informed that CO was only sent out yesterday. Looking forward to Monday's mail. -

We are still deliberating and will decide after PSLE. I think there are bad sheep in every school. Both ACSI and SJI have rich kids as students. Did your DS visit the schools during open house? How does he feel about them?ruohoo97:

My DS didnβt apply for ACSI Dsa as my dh and I have not thought of it. After listening to DS teacher recommendation, we specially went to the campus and DS checked the sch web himself . I think my ds like the school so much. And the sch now becomes his motivation of his studies now. I concern his moral, deportment and behavior development in his coming years in the sec sch.
Btw, we only applied for rv Dsa and no sound so far. Sigh! -

Were you informed by RV of that? Does it mean that letters received on Monday will all be COs?
RV's DSA process is tedious and is the last school to give out results. I am waiting too.

Had not planned to DSA to ACSI, but under a friend's (ex-teacher) recommendation, we gave it a try and surprisingly obtained a CO. Was initially iffy about ACIS and thot of trying for WL first....but yet after attending the open house + tea session and listening to the new principal (he started Jun'11), I felt pretty positive about the new P and hope he will really be able to drive the values down. He had stressed on communication & 'family'.....he is aware of the 'rich man school' and touched on available financial aids for those who needs it. Seems like a pretty down to earth man and he was a ex-SJI student.
Personally, I can understand your concern about moral, deportment and behavior development in his coming years in the sec sch. I too have all these concerns. Most of all, being amongst the rich would mean DS has to be very strong in his character, must be able to withstand the temptation, possible taunting (intentional/unintentional) from his peers etc. He will need to learn and I will need to manage his 'why others have, I can't :stompfeet:
One of my closer friend (Hokkien-peng, poor kid) was from ACS....he admitted that sometimes it did get difficult but he also does not denied that the school has pretty strong value system (holistic??)
AC people.....dun :torchme: me
Actually I came from ACJC many years ago. Am chinese speaking, not rich either. Impression of AC back then.....definitely a lot of rich kids & some can be quite  . But the school itself, still OK, we were not pressurized to donate too...if anything, it's more from the students population. However, not all students are rich, and some rich kids are really nice kids. So one would still be able to have some good friends there.
Well, I will also be try to find out more about ACSI during this period. But honestly, each child is different and the people they will encounter/experience will differ too. Until our DS goes in, we would never know what to expect
Just have to take a leap of faith and do what I can when the time comes.
Good luck to you & DS too.
