      Hi Honey,

Thanks for sharing. My ds's current class is packed with mischievous boys.it is a mixed school. In fact just last week, one boy \" punched\" the other. Ds is a monitor and he told us they tried to break the fight and even stand in as a witness. He is a class mtr. I share the same view as you. As parents, we will guide them on appropriate behavior and if they are caught in some situation, how should he handle. However, not everyone come from the same family background so we cannot expect everyone to hold the same values. But the ft, level mgr and principal was involved so from their actions, they are very concerned for kids concerned. This is a consolation/ assurance for parents. In fact the naughty ones have to visit the principal during recess for a period of time.

      Hi QLL,

Thanks so much for the information. It is indeed very helpful.

I suppose the first barrier my ds has to overcome is the religion as he is from a buddhist SAP school...but I also did that when I moved to a convent sec school šŸ˜„ some initial culture shock but it allows me to appreciate different religion. My dh is saints from primary to secondary... But we are both free thinkers.

Yes, an excellent band can does wonder. This is the first year I experienced it when they did their SYF. We were literally blown away....he is very passionate about his instrument. Ds and I felt MSHS seems to be just perfect as it is near our place too. Really hope he works hard.

It is also good that they have a decent COP for affiliation. If the schools just accept everyone it is usually difficult to build that standard for o levels. So I rather they are more selective of their own affiliated kids.

Looks good and thanks so much for sharing. It gives me a feel of what to expect for DSA. Hopefully we will be the lucky ones in 2014.

In the meantime, try to keep this thread alive. It is useful for existing and prospective parents.

        Hi QLL,

Just checked my email, so far nothing received from MSHS.. I did email the in-charge on Wed and was told he will email out ASAP. The tea session has been changed to 14/9 instead of PSLE's eve he initially told me on phone.

        Hi tt
Thanks, didn't know the tea session has been changed earlier, tried calling Mr Shahfiq but he was on leave on Friday.

Dear TempTemp, QLL and other parents,

I am trying to position my P4 ds for DSA in MSHS via band CCA in 2 years time. Anyone with experience in this????

Can you pls share the DSA process? I think for band they have auditions. Besides audition, are there any other interviews/ requirements? Just wondering what to expect. Is there a minimum P5/P6 scores that is required by MSHS??? I don't see that in the website but are there any \"unwritten\" requirements that you maybe aware of?

Greatly appreciate if you could just share your general DSA experience with MSHS. That would help. Thanks!

            Hi MMM,

my second got his DSA in MSHS via band. The process is quite hassle-free, submit in the forms, attend trial and wait for reply.

they did not specify the minimum scores required but my son's another classmate who also participated in this DSA was rejected, his results was 65-70 range. But I believed the impression during the trial is very important. Besides questions about SYF's participation and the instrument he play, they also asked if he is rejected in this DSA and his PSLE is good enough, will he still opt for MSHS? and few other questions but I don't really remember.

My elder son was from MS Primary & Secondary and he did pretty well in his O level. My second son, though can be admitted into MSHS for his primary, I got him into another nearby SAP school as we shifted house. If you were to ask me, this is a wrong decision. The standard is just too great and now my second boy's foundation is very much weaker and the pace of studying is so slow.

My impression of MSHS is that it is a good and really kiasu school. Most of the things they do, they are usually earlier then other schools. Even their school holidays start 2 weeks earlier then other schools, if I remember correctly.

But now I know, they are being kiasu for a cause.. My concern now is getting my son through DSA into MSHS - means he will have to put in a lot of time in band sessions.. Academically he is already weak, not sure if he can cope with it. But if I don't go through this route, likely he will just end up in a neigbourhood Sec school.

            Sigh..

                  Dear parents,

I'm Tang Xin Ning, a student from NTU majoring in Linguistics & Multilingual Studies, and currently I'm doing a research study investigating how the school a student is from may influence his/her language.

As such, I need 3 Secondary 3 students from Maris Stella High School to participate in this study. I am here to appeal to parents of current Maris Stella Sec 3 boys, to consent to your child's participation in my study.

The procedure is really simple and would only take 10 minutes: the participant will first be asked to read a short story aloud, after which he will be asked to give directions in a particular scenario. He will be audio-recorded in both tasks. Following which, he will be asked to fill in a short survey with his personal particulars, as well as details of his language use. Each participant will remain anonymous and all data collected will remain confidential. The recording will be done in a quiet environment. Should you agree to let your child participate, I would gladly accommodate his/your schedule and meet him at any convenient location (or just outside MSHS) and timing to record him. I understand that it's Term 4 and students would be very busy right now, so I will try to minimize any disruption to their schedule.

Would any kind parents be willing to let your child participate, pretty please? šŸ˜„ I would really x 10000 appreciate your help in this, as this project is for my thesis.

Please? šŸ˜„ If you're interested, please drop me a private message asap! And if you have any concerns or queries about me, the research study, or anything, before you consider consenting, I'd be very happy to answer them.

And to everyone: Thank you so much for reading through this! šŸ˜„ I sincerely apologize for the long post.

Hi, I think you are in the wrong thread. There is a Maris Stella under primary networking thread as well.
