Hi raykyawthu,
Glad to hear that your kid will be in Kcpps next year.
Care to share with us why you said the teaching method in PCF is ineffective? -
They fail to keep rapport with parents and notice that my daughter cannot even spell very common vocabs. I feel that they are taking K2 still the same as child care instead of preparing the kids for P1.

Hi raykwaythu,
My gal is in a private childcare centre. Based on the worksheet given back every term, the childcare centre seems to be preparing my gal well for P1.
However, I realised in dismay that she was not able to read and spell simple words, even though the centre is teaching Letterland phonics. Hence, I sent my gal to an external phonics enrichment class and at the same time revise with her on what she has learnt after the lesson each time. I am happy to say that she is able to read and spell now after a few months of intensive phonics lessons coupled with nightly revision with me.
Since then, I realised that we, as a parent, have to spare our time to coach and guide our child. I always have the idea that childcare centre is not as good as church kindergarten when it comes to teaching, as their main focus is to take care of our children. Thus, I will not rely on the centre too much in terms of preparation for P1. But that being said, some childcare centres do prepare the children well for their P1.
Perhaps you can check with the teacher-in-charge and seek her opinion on the area that your child needs improvement. From there, you will be able to coach her personally. Let her read more books and with phonics background, she will be able to pick up and spell like a breeze. -
thanks for the info. appreciate that. Any suggestion for phonics class

CMUM:
Beside astonmummy and dchleong, any mummies or daddies enrolled their kids to KCPPS?
My girl got in too. Awaiting for the orientation.....
Anything else i need to prepare for? 1st time Daddy.... -
Hi DonaldGoh,
Welcome!
Do u mean prepare for the Orientation? Heard that u need to prepare some cash if u intend to get uniforms and textbooks on that day. The bus vendor will also be there if you require school bus service. Other than that will be filling up of forms.
If you are referring to preparation for P1, then you may want to seek Zeemimi's advice or advise from experienced mummies and daddies here coz I'm also a first time mummy with kid going to P1 next yr, so not really know what to expect.

Uniform can go toa payoh to buy if you don’t want to queue up. You can go anytime if you know which house your child will be in. Last year we queue up to take size, didn’t get the uniform that day.
Textbook I think is preorder, collect another day. Where is orientation held? Current site or new site? -
Hi Zeemimi,
I have yet to receive letter from the school but I presume it will be at current site, coz the new site seem not to be in used when I passed by last week.
Gathered from the school website, there will be an Orientation at the new site on 27/12. -
I thought it will be on 10/11 ?
