Hi, can anyone current students or parents advise me on th ebelow questions ? I 'm preparing for my DD for NUShigh next year.
Trying to buy before Sep bcos of the Popular 20% discount)
1) What kind of stationery is normally used MORE ? Like example, more pens, pencils, files etc.
2) I am trying to get a few science guide books for reference .What should I buy from Popular ?
3) As for HCL, is it the same as per other secondary school books.
Thank you. -

1. Usual stationary but not too much (no doubt 20% discount) as all school need their own school files. There are tonnes of lecture notes, work sheets, assignment, quiz etc and NUSH in particular has this thingy called files check for practically every subject which my DD already got used to as a GEPer. Mainstreamer need to get to this else they be buried by volumes of papers, for those disorganised one, a night mare. There are plenty of file checks so need to have some separator or indexes for each subject areas.Hi, can anyone current students or parents advise me on th ebelow questions ? 2. Popular will not be able to supply any science reference materials for NUSH curriculum so there is no need to prepare, except for a thick and very comprehensive Advance Biology text book (~ $100) which they will buy during orientation day. Mainstream Chemistry and Physics book (for Sec 3/4 Express) is used as guide for year 1 & year 2 foundation in NUSH.
If keen to have head start on mathematics may try reading up sec 3/sec 4 E or A maths. Some subject like Biology even seems at 'A\" level depth from the start. Even subject like English and Integrated Humanities are at pretty advanced level from the start.
Most reference and study materials are provided by respective subject dept so there is nothing to prepare.
In short NUSH year 1 curriculum start at Sec 3/4 Express level and accelerated from there. There is greater depth and intensity in each learning area but most student can cope with it. -
Does anyone has the list of overseas universities that recognised NUSHS Diploma ? Or anyone knows any one of them ?

So there is no real urgency to buy now as you may not know what you will need.

As for the reference books, the teachers will tell later the students which ones to buy, so not to worry and it's better for the teachers to inform them which editions to buy, for example, the Biology Guide which DS1 bought last year was the new edition. We had sourced for it but it was not available since it's the new edition and we found out that it's cheaper to buy from school.
I don't remember buying anything at Orientation except some school files (optional, you can always buy outside).
If you wish to prepare your DC in advance, a good place to find them is Bras Basar as these books are very 'detailed' in their syllabus, so they are not available readily in any bookstore.
Hope this helps. -

This is taken from their school website.

1. What is the graduation qualification when a student graduates from NUS High School and is it recognized by universities worldwide?
The NUS High School Diploma will be the school's graduation qualification. Currently, the Diploma is recognised as an admissible qualification by National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Management University, University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, University of Warwick, Kingโs College London, University College London, Yale University, Stanford University, Massachusett Institute of Technology, Cornell University , Dordt College, Lewis-Clark State College, Sweet Briar College, Virginia Military Institute, Washington University St Louis, Wilson College, Edith Cowan University, La Trobe University, Murdoch University, University at Buffalo (State University of New York), University of Georgia, Oklahoma Wesleyan University, University of Maryland. The list will continue as we seek recognition from the top-tier universities in the Australia. -
Sure. Thanks dagong99. Now looking for Science Books to let her has a idea of what expected next year so at least she can read through after PSLE.

Don't mention, this was what DS1 had done after his PSLE too & it really helped him a lot.
