Anyone have views on Tao Nan 2012 math prelim?

Hi, Chen.

Tao Nan Maths Prelim Paper 2, Q.16 is flawed, right? The orange beads, question stated as given by Jodie's friend, shouldn't it be Jodie's? Else not workable....

Hah? Is it? DS solved it with algebra and got the answer provided with the Top School paper? I've asked him to check again.

Edited: Hubby and DS solved it. There seems to be no issue with the question.

Anyone else done the Tao Nan paper? What thoughts? Difficult/Moderate/Easy?
My girl friend DD got 95/100 on maths pp. Do you think Easy/difficult.

I think Easy wor... DS scored 100 within time limit. I think that generally prelim 1 is more easy than prelim 2 for schools like Tao Nan? Is it? Anyone knows?

Has your DS done the Catholic Math Paper yet? (Even DS math tutor couldn't solved it, think the question is flawed...)

mummy so kiasu:
speedmaths.:

Generally, about 85% to 87% of P6 pupils will get a Pass grade for PSLE maths, which is easily the worst passing rate for the 4 main subjects.

Every year, many pupils will cry after their PSLE Maths paper, it is just a matter of whether this gets reported or not.
Thus it is usually a time of weeping and gnashing of teeth, and all that.

Why are there many pupils cry after their PSLE Maths paper every year? Not every year is a tough paper, certain year is easy paper. 2010 & 2011 PSLE Math papers are not that tough. Of course, we are unable to predict whether it is going to be a tough or easy paper this year. The high ability ones will hope for a difficult paper.

The passing rate for PSLE Maths is actually lower;
from 82.8% to 84.2%.

The passing rate for the last 3 years are:
83.8 (2009)
84.1 (2010)
84.2 (2011)

As a rough estimate, about 140 more pupils (out of about 45000) passed maths in 2010 (the year of the easy/not so tough paper), as compared to 2009 (the year of the tough paper).

Every year, expect about 7000 pupils to fail PSLE maths.

Maths is usually the second subject/paper.
Doing badly in maths will most likely affect the state of mind of the pupils, as they prepare for MT, Science, and HMT (for some).

Pupils who think that this year's prelim maths papers from schools like NYPS and RGPS are easy, should expect to do well then.

All the best for your child's PSLE.

Cheers

Hi,

There is a Q18 in the Catholic High's paper, on \"Jodie, beads,...\", hope this is the one you are referring to.

The version that I have looks okay to me.

Maybe you wish to post your version of the question on the \"Q&A - PSLE Math\" thread, so that someone could show you the step-by-step solution. Hopefully an easier, faster solution.

Cheers

I did not get the 2012 Prelim papers for my boy. He has too many homework from his school. Can anyone kind enough to share the 4 /5 marks questions from NYPS?
