How many handling fees of S$5 charged by PK for order like this:

Place one order then place another new order. Ask for combine shipping?

      Pay S$10? or still S$5?

I think for peeka, if your order is not yet complete, you can choose to add more to the list. But not very clear if there is additional handling charge (my instinct says no). My personal preference is to go with DD becos everything is transparent. Either that or shipping agents like Peeka.

For spree, must remember to go with one who has done this many times and can be trusted. There were reports in the past (probably not books) where the organiser disappeared.

I had joined sprees only a couple of times in the past via friends (they were the participants) - and vague memory is that organiser made money out of the exchange rate. Also, there still was wait time becos there is no clarity when the shipment will come. and the added uncertainty if there is any mix up in orders. In all, I was lucky that the spree went well but I didn’t quite enjoy the experience and probably won’t look in that way also.

PS, the stuff I ordered via dangdang in early Jun arrived last week. Must catch up on the reading first…dun wan to say that I won’t visit DD but then, it’s a bit scary how all the unread books can accumulate.

Hi for Dangdang purchases, if UOB has earmarked my $$ that means the payment (UOB Visa) will eventually be successful? I got the error message from Dangdang immediately after entering my Visa OTP.

Did you see a successful msg before the error MSG? The successful msg last only 5 secs. If you are not sure, did you rec the email from dangdang 24 hrs later about the successful transaction? Recently I paid using AMEX and about 24hrs later I rec'd email fr dangdang informing me abt the successful transaction.

Yes. Don't worry if you see an error message, I believe we all (those who pay by credit card) do. Just leave it for about 2-3 days, they will audit and put it into your account. Meanwhile you will still see your order as pending payment.

IF it should come to it that they don't recognise the payment, just get a screenshot of your credit card charges (webgrab or photo of printed statement should be fine) and they will honor.

Thanks hquek and SAHM_Tan for the advice!

I just received an email from Dangdang confirming receipt of payment and they are sorting out my books now. 🙂 So far so good...guess I was too hasty

Anyway if future Dangdang newbies want to know, I paid at 9.30am and received the confirmation email at 11.30am (UOB Visa)

                    Dear mummies,

I am a newbie to this dangdang.com but will be in beijing for a short trip in 2 weeks time. I am hoping to ship my items to my hotel so that I can bring it back to singapore.

Should I purchase now , pay with credit card and hope my hotel will accept my parcel on my behalf

or should I purchase just before arriving and pay cash on delivery?

Hard to say. If there is no local number, the delivery company may not deliver at all (I know because it happened to me before). Are you able to contact the hotel directly and ask them for help? Get their direct number and a contact person name. The local delivery co will usually call ahead before they try. They will not call your singapore number.

Btw, the books may be in warehouses in major cities, not just in Beijing. When you place order, you should be able to see where these are. Reason why it’s impt is because if the books are say, in shanghai, there will be delay before it reaches you…even if you order cash on delivery. If all the books are in Beijing, then it should be alright.

Overall I think the better bet is to order on urgent delivery (only rmb 10) for delivery when you are there. But offset is that you may have to stay in hotel to await.

Btw there are bookshops around, there is one book city (I didn’t go) where you can go see. Or you can try the bookshop at wangfujing, there is one fairly big one. Not as much variety as dangdang but it’s still cheaper than Singapore.

I’m pleased to say that I’ve just received my books from Dangdang in fairly good condition. (Better than Amazon.cn in fact)

Placed my order on Sept 10 and just received them today. No dog ears, no creases on the spine. Some books are a bit dusty cos they are old and less popular but nothing major. The ‘bestseller’ sort of books were wrapped in plastic.
