Does anyone have any idea whether I'll be able to buy DVDs from Dangdang direct? Has anyone tried it before?

      Hi Busymom,
I've ordered before, cartoon dvds together with some other books. no problems with delivery. 🙂

      :thankyou:

I received my package yesterday and all the DVDs are there! :rahrah:
Hi Busymom,
How long did the delivery take for you this time round?

        Hi Eskimo

I ordered on 31 May and the package arrived yesterday, so it’s about 1.5 months.

In terms of packing, peeka is still better. The books were in better shape. For this latest order direct from dangdang (11 books and 6 DVDs), my shipping charges comes up to S$35 thereabouts when the size of the parcel is smaller than my last peeka order and the weight is also so much lighter. But no choice, as I wanted to buy DVD.

          Hi,

was hoping if somebody can help me on the shipping rates from dangdang…
I am deciding if I should purchase directly from dangdang or with the SMH spree…
As its seems that the shipping rates from the spree are so cheap… at only 20% of the books fees??
Does anyone has any idea as to why is the shipping fee so low comparing to what DD charges me 50% of the original price of my books?

          Thanks much in advance!

            Hi san,

Spree organisers have bulk volume which means there’s economy of scale when it comes to shipping cost. DD sends your parcel on its own, regardless of your purchase quantity, so there’s no economies of scale. More importantly, you may want to factor in the time to get your books. Direct order from DD takes about 2 months. If u are not in a hurry for your books, you can afford this option. Otherwise, you may want to consider joining spree or other conceirge options like peeka.

Or check if you have friends who can help you buy in china and bring them back, it will be faster that way. Delivery within china is super fast. I was pleasantly surprised that their delivery times include the weekends too.

How many handling fees of S$5 charged by PK for order like this:

Place one order then place another new order. Ask for combine shipping?

              Pay S$10? or still S$5?

I think for peeka, if your order is not yet complete, you can choose to add more to the list. But not very clear if there is additional handling charge (my instinct says no). My personal preference is to go with DD becos everything is transparent. Either that or shipping agents like Peeka.

For spree, must remember to go with one who has done this many times and can be trusted. There were reports in the past (probably not books) where the organiser disappeared.

I had joined sprees only a couple of times in the past via friends (they were the participants) - and vague memory is that organiser made money out of the exchange rate. Also, there still was wait time becos there is no clarity when the shipment will come. and the added uncertainty if there is any mix up in orders. In all, I was lucky that the spree went well but I didn’t quite enjoy the experience and probably won’t look in that way also.

PS, the stuff I ordered via dangdang in early Jun arrived last week. Must catch up on the reading first…dun wan to say that I won’t visit DD but then, it’s a bit scary how all the unread books can accumulate.

Hi for Dangdang purchases, if UOB has earmarked my $$ that means the payment (UOB Visa) will eventually be successful? I got the error message from Dangdang immediately after entering my Visa OTP.

Did you see a successful msg before the error MSG? The successful msg last only 5 secs. If you are not sure, did you rec the email from dangdang 24 hrs later about the successful transaction? Recently I paid using AMEX and about 24hrs later I rec'd email fr dangdang informing me abt the successful transaction.

Yes. Don't worry if you see an error message, I believe we all (those who pay by credit card) do. Just leave it for about 2-3 days, they will audit and put it into your account. Meanwhile you will still see your order as pending payment.

IF it should come to it that they don't recognise the payment, just get a screenshot of your credit card charges (webgrab or photo of printed statement should be fine) and they will honor.

Thanks hquek and SAHM_Tan for the advice!

I just received an email from Dangdang confirming receipt of payment and they are sorting out my books now. 🙂 So far so good...guess I was too hasty

Anyway if future Dangdang newbies want to know, I paid at 9.30am and received the confirmation email at 11.30am (UOB Visa)
